I've been looking at a banger rally to Krakow at
www.motoscape.co.uk
I'm thinking of going with a couple friends, sounds great fun!
Has anyone done this rally previously or done one similar.

I'm thinking of doing this Krakow one, though I kinda think that going to Casablanca or Morocco might be a bit more exciting.

I just like the look of this one. It seems to have a cracking route, with 2 of the top 10 European drives and a stop off in that party city, Bratislava. Hope I can convince my friends.

We did one last year, car had to cost under £100, we went with something Jap and reasonably quick, a Mazda 626 2.0 GT. Bank on spending a fair amount getting it roadworthy, we needed new discs and pads at the front, brake lines all round, did a full service on it before we left. Then painted it up like spider-man. Bring along some rad-weld, plenty of bottled water, some tyre-weld and anything else it looks like it might need as the chances are you will need them at some point.

Ours started overheating on the first day, so we ripped off the front grill to get more air to the radiator, ended up topping it up with water and coolant almost every stop. But it got us up the Stelvio pass faster than anything else on the rally (ok it overheated halfway up and we had to stop for 20 minutes to let it cool down) and made it all the way to Prague which was where the rally finished. We weren't done with it though and spent the following day at a steady 120mph on the Autobahn across Germany, all 3 of us spanked it round the Nurburgring the following morning, tyres squealing the entire way round.

After we were done there we were planning on driving it home, sadly just outside Brussels it had other plans and the alternator packed in. We ran round for an afternoon in a little town trying to find somewhere to fix it or scrap it for us, a kindly Belgian took pity on us and we signed it over to him, caught a train into Brussels and got the Eurostar back home.

Top fun holiday, but not as cheap as you think it's going to be, I would also take out some good quality European breakdown cover as if you get into a similar situation as us you can always get it towed home, or arrange for alternative transport, we were just bloody lucky that we were so close to Brussels when ours died.

to be honest motoscape is too many days and not enough driving. you will be bored after the third day. and its not the only event going to krakow either, they've seemingly copied that from another banger rally....and motoscape is copied from czechwrecks...
