Dear sir,
He is a complete disgrace. That car he was driving is capable of nearly 140 mph and he drives at 111mph? Not surprised his career is on the wane. Wobbling about like a geriatric, getting in proper drivers way. Get the menace off the road before he causes an accident due to his lack of pace.
He’s slow on his motorbike, too…

“A RACING driver has been banned from the road after he hit 111mph on the A11 at Chippenham.
Racing champion Philip Bennett, who competes in the Le Mans Endurance Series, was caught doing more than 40mph above the 70mph speed limit last May.
The 35-year-old was criticised by magistrates in Ely, who said his speed was a disgrace and "grossly out of order".
John Pegg, in mitigation, told the court his client had just finished a day of racing when he was caught speeding in his Mini Cooper.
The court heard that Bennett, who took part in Channel 4's Faking It programme where he acted as a mentor for a man who had to convince other professionals he was a seasoned young racing driver, had recently been offered 5,000 euros per race in Luxembourg and that he wrote for trade magazines including Circuit Driver and Autocar.
M agistrates slapped a 56-day ban on Bennett of Acorn Way, Silverstone, fined him £1,000 and ordered him to pay costs.
Bryant Watson, presiding magistrate, said: "The speed you were travelling at was extreme to say the least and grossly out of order."
Bennett immediately entered an appeal against his sentence, which has been suspended until the case is heard at Cambridge Crown Court.”

Poor old Phil ain't that wealthy, and £1,000 is an immense amount of dosh for that speed. They clearly did not take into account his bility and thought he was being wantonly dangerous. Idiots.

When you get an appearance at court, you have to fil lout a "statement of means" for the magistrates, and they decide how much they fine you based upon this I presume.

Funny old speed to get done at 111mph...may as well stay 100 ish on speedo....in something quicker, you would be through 111 soon enough!...on a private test track of course

Surely if you get caught you don't keep your licence for 10 months until they decide to look after it for you?

Why should 111 = a ban .... you can drive that kind of speed across many parts of germany and the sky won't fall in.
Yes its above the speed limit, but I think they are making way too much of the numbers game.
1st offence... caution and small fine only or "driver education"
2nd offence (in three years) three points and a fine
3rd offence - three more points and bigger fine (say four times
4th offence - mandatory ban for say one month
after that then fair enough they are asking for it
they should also be decent enough to raise the limit to the 130 kph 110 kph system that the rest of europe is on

Don't get me wrong, I agree with you... what I'm saying is magistrates definitely don't share our point of view. I thought it was pretty well known and accepted that 100+ meant a ban, if caught
Agghh Chippenham magistrate scum 
On my way to Castle Combe once got strafed by a nazi with a hairdryer on the M4 doing a Veyron worrying 101mph, I got fined £500 and 2 weeks ban (but no points 
) OK fairy nuff but.... I read in a paper the other week Sir James Hewitt got caught at the exact same speed and same location and got a similar ban but a £50! fine 
What so I'm more wealthy than Prince Harrys dad? Yeah right?

What a load of rubbish, just because they knew it would be reported in the news, therefor by there logic, it will scare everybody into not speeding if that is the result of 111mph.
I got captured on the M1 at Rotherham 2 years ago @118mph, result of that was £750 and 2 weeks ban, went to Cuba that night for 2 weeks, thanked the magistrate for the 1st decent break in 3 years

Do that on a german autobahn and you'd be fine, weird and bizarre how within western europe something totally safe and legal for one country has idiots over here frothing at the mounth as their tiny minds encompass the idea that a racing driver may be able to handel medium speed driving.
Wiltshire coppers are devious bastards. I got caught near Chippenham (Melksham IIRC) a few years ago on a daft bit of road on which the speed limit alternates between 30, 40 and 50 in no particular order, seemingly randomly, every few yards. Of course, I had dialled in the wrong speed ( tsk ) and a pair of coppers leapt out from behind a wall and pointed their hairdryer at me. My indignation at the following week's post led me to support my lawyers children's school fees for half a term but to no avail. FFS, there are parts of the country where if two figures leap from the shadows and point something at you, the safest course of action might be to run the

Unfortunately the courts never take in to account what is deemed to be safe or unsafe...its just as clear cut as the speed limit is 70..he was doing 111..TS.
You should all try living in Australia..there is absolutely none of this being able to cruise at 100MPH lark...if the speed limit is 100KMH then that is what you do. Get caught doing 103KMH and expect a fine in the post very soon!!
