Not a rocket, looks wheel driven to me. Not sure why they dubbed the sound of a Jet over the top at the end. Comedic effect, I guess. (But I do like your sentiment, Nervous!!)

A lot of the land speed record cars that are wheel driven are powered by a chinook helicopter engine, which is essensialy a smallish jet engine with a long shaft sticking out the front connected to the secondary engine shaft.

So the jet engine sound is in fact appropriate.
