Get stick in guys.
Diane of Sutton just made me see red. Someone should suggest takin away something she loves and seeing how she likes it.

It's another form of subtle communism, reducing peoples live to the the lowest common denominator/same level of mediocrity and making it OK to criticise those who want to show flair/individuality in the buying choice.
And people wonder why with puzzlement why I would be interested in moving to the USA

Mr Davies notes that between 1994 and 2004 the power of new cars went up by 28%, making them a lot heavier, and so increasing the amount of CO2 they put out, even though no country raised its speed limit to allow cars to use this increased power.
The power of cars going up doesnt make them heavier as such, cars have gotten heavier by EU regulations of safety (which I'm not against in moderation) and by the addition of toys- this is pure capitalism- to make people leave their old cars to buy new ones. If speed limits have NOT been raised then even if cars power levels have gone up- will this effect alone make emissions go up? I think not. "He'll be asking the parliament to back his suggestion of a law making the average emission 120g from 2015, and not allowing any new car to go on the market if it produces more than double that, which would really hit the posh sports car market."
Ah yes, there's the agenda.
I always feel ashamed when British politicians show us up in Europe with these ridiculous suggestions.
However, I'm optimistic that sanity will prevail eventually.
There's not much "return on backlash" for politicians to price or legislate sports cars off the road, since they make up relatively little of the fleet, and the drivers are not so price-sensitive.
There's been a public consultation about proposed CO2-based road taxes here in Ireland, where high registration and road taxes have already reduced the average engine size compared to the UK. The informed consensus seems to be that the biggest overall emissions change will come from moving the bulk of cars down a couple of CO2 bands. This can be reasonably painless and easy to achieve using C02-based registration and road tax bands without requiring speed limiters, maximum CO2 limits etc.
Fuel duty escalators don't work as well, because you can only change the CO2 profile of the entire fleet over time by influencing new car purchasers, and for these people fuel costs are much less significant than depreciation.
Ultimately, however, we may need to rely on political lobbying by the German car industry to stop this nonsense. And if all else fails, we'll all end up driving Elises, Caterfields and Atoms

just how many cars are there on the road at the moment that are NOT capable of doing 100 mph?!
why oh why oh why can't it become a legalised sport to hunt these lentilists with hounds, or large blunt implements? It would create a fantastic opportunity to release all the pent up aggression in the public, provide a genuinely useful public service AND bring all communities together - lentilists cowering in a huddle, everyone else in the world baying for their blood.

I'm trying to imagine the Italians allowing Ferrari to die. I'm trying, but failing, because the Italians will just tell the EU to go and
itself, and continue to build beautiful cars the way they always have.
I've long suspected that the UK has the only government in the EU that takes any notice of the EU. Most others seem to loosely follow legislation handed down from Brussels, the UK re-writes it to make it even more draconian and then delights in inflicting it on us poor saps.

"is it right to ban the wannabe boy racers"
So, are they saying that if you buy a car that can do over 101mph, that makes you a boy racer ??Honestly ! What a load of shite !

Edited to add:
Just read Diane from Sutton's comment !!!!

I can forgive David Wood in London for failing to spot that a BMW and a Mini are in fact the same thing, but then he comes out with this nonsense:

My solution? Right of way on the roads goes automatically to the smaller car. (i never let range rovers pull out in front of me anyway)
