I'd agree with what's been said above, however watch this vid and just listen to that Metro.

WRC, it doesnt take long for technology to prevail over power
i believe by 1993 the 2 litre ~300 hp BTCC touring cars were already faster round some tracks than the 550 hp sierra cosworths
just the same as f1, i'm sure for all their brute power the turbo cars would be way way slower even than a mid 90s car nevermind a 2007 car
i prefer the old skool stuff though

Nice video, but I suspect that Metro is packing more power than the Group B 6R4s had.
The difference between the Metros currently running in National rallies and the WRC cars is really the active transmissions. This is what gives themn the biggest edge. The rudimentary Ferguson 4X4 system ARG used is really no match.

there was something on cable today, looking back at older rallycars including Group B, Malcolm Wilson plus a couple of others stated they were much quicker massivley more power but todays diff / suspension and tyre technology mean current cars are faster in stage times but obviously if you de-restricted a current car and turned the boost up to 650 bhp and reduced the weight imagine how quick it would be!

My guess would be that it would depend on the stage.
Yes the WRC cars have better tyres, suspension, weigh nothing parts and clever diffs/anti lag etc but IMHO these don't carry the same gravitas as aero & tyres in F1. If the stage had enough straight bits then 600bhp would have the 300 (ish
) of the WRC car. Enough twists and turns and the scenario would be reversed.

in the old days they would drive at night in the dark and everything.
the rac used to take place in november because the weather was bad.
now they have rally gb and its all small and moved to try for better weather,
a group b car standing still was better to see than the wrc.
rally in the 2k's has got no spectical or drama,theyve tried to make it easyer for the casual fan to enjoy and have driven away the real fans(just like football).
