you've muddled the commodores up at the top..
____________

but if it were a VE commodore then that's what i'd have otherwise the falcon (well an FPV GTblah).

__________

they do a foresteresque falcon estate thing 'territory'? you can get one with the xr6 turbo engine - emissions aside i could see something like that doing okay.

Don't really like any, but if it really had to be one, purely based on looks, it'd be the FPV F6 Typhoon - c.£25k.

The Ford is an old design now, I'd go for a VE derivative of some kind, possibly an SS-V. I think the Caprice looks aces but it's a softer than the smaller SS I think.

Are HSV GTSs really only £28k?

yes.

it may have needed a bit of the old matte grey plastic 'allround' treatment but i reckon it could have worked in europe (in small numbers).

I'd go for the Falcon myself smile generally considered to have the better driving chassis despite being the older model, although Holden's chev V8's are still better than the Ford ones. I'd go for an XR6 turbo (or FPV Typhoon) over the V8 equivalent anyway - easy tuning potential, more torque than the V8's even in standard form, and being a 4.0 straight-6 with low-pressure turbo the lag is supposedly pretty much nonexistent.

that's not what the aussie and NZdy magazines (that i have got) say. they pretty much reckon the falcon is better than the VZ(??) commodore but now the VE is out the VE is the best. especially with the electrospectro wunder dampers. smile

I haven't read many tests of the VE, isn't it only the ultimate top-line HSV GTS which gets the electro-damper things?

Most of the people I know who've driven the VE weren't that impressed with it, like my dad's boss who was all ready to get one for the company (to replace a VT-II S V6) until he drove it, after which it wasn't really considered an option.

how have you managed this? when i was there (last sept) you couldn't get a maagazine that didn't have a VE test hehe

rofl Too much time spent on Pistonheads, it helps me avoid spending precious petrol money on magazines wink

Probably also that I'd just skim over an article about a relatively bland car which doesn't interest me that much - how much attention would you pay to a test of a new 'sporty' V6 Mondeo or Vectra? Those are probably the equivalent cars for the UK market I imagine. It's only the top models which are anything special, and TBH I'd much rather read about a GT3 or something in a magazine.

yes good point. it's the old grass-is-greener-alert thing again.
what it's actually like is "oh god not another people carrier/suv/version of the same car that produces very slightly less c02"..!

hehe Funny you mention that sort of thing, NZ Autocar did a big fuel economy test last year - a Fiat Punto diesel won, but I found it quite amusing that the Ford Territory 4.0 with the LPG kit cost less to run over their test distance than the Honda Jazz etc, and iirc it beat the Prius as well. 3rd overall or something, bet the tree-huggers got wound up about that one wink
