Drive An M3 At The 'Ring
Take a virtual spin in BMW’s new M-car
Save yourself the boredom of twiddling your thumbs while you wait for your shiny new M3 to arrive by exercising them instead.
BMW has just launched a free computer game which allows you to drive the Nürburgring grand prix track in the M3, complete with an accurate recording of the car’s V8 as it screams up to 8,400rpm.
The game allows you to configure the car to your spec before you set 414bhp loose on the track, without the worry of picking up the bill for an excursion into the barriers at the Schumacher chicane.
BMW reckons that the game should run on any PC, but using a steering wheel is recommended if you’ve got one because the keyboard controls take some getting used to. Give it 20 minutes, and you’ll be setting competitive times.

Full of information, facts and opinions there - a wonderful rebuttal that has left me in no doubt.

The rebuttal was, well to the point at least

If you get bored of racing around the track, you can actually make it to the inside of the track (look for openings in the fence) and go hooning around those tight twisty marshalls roads and get some serious air when you hit the bumps, dont go too far though or you'll end up suspended in the timespace continumn. There is also a giant burnout pad just behind the pits, hold down brake and acceleator and you can do some great burnouts and doughnuts, which is about all you'll be doing if you have a keyboard. Reverse J turns are also good fun. Bet the BMW dealer wont appreciate you doing that on the real life test drive

You need to commit to a turn and get the amount of steering (e.g. time pressing button) correct, or you spaz up. Its not like playstation style d-pad racing game steering, where you can sort of "tap" a direction through thte whole bend to make it turn gently. You need to press the direction for a short time and release it. The wheels self-center themselves (relatively) slowly so it completes a turn.
Hard to explain but if you go into the controller config and see how the steering and throttle bars light up when you press and release you might see what I mean.
We had a 4-player network game at lunch.

I was going to set that going, but I think I might leave it for home. Looks like a bit of fun though!
