Ah bugger. Got a phone call about 17:30. Lot's of crying and "I've crashed the car".

I managed to get her location and that no-one was hurt. Off I go to see the damage.

I arrive just after an ambulance.... Turns out she's fine but the back of the car stepped out when exiting a roundabout, car plowed into a pedestrian protection barrier, drove up it!!! Almost rolled, and then came off the barrier and stopped sideways across a 40mph dual carriageway. Some kind guys had pushed her to the side (Thanks guys!).

Anyway the police turned up and took her details etc. Ambulance left and we are awaiting the recovery truck. All of a sudden "SCREECCCHHHHH" an astra go's past us sideways and stops facing us in the bus stop we are parked in!! fork me that was close think I. "SCREECCCHHHHHH" a honda civic is sideways beside us.... fork me that was really really close!!!

Anyway the car is now recovered home. Ripped the bumper off and theres some metal pushed around and a cracked water bottle. Put a wheel from my 2nd set on (wheel on the car had a flat), driven it around the block and it's not driving streight but no nasty noises.

So i'm left with the questions:
1)Will the council want me to pay for repairs to the barrier. I presume the Police will tell them it's been hit by my car.
2)Do I involve the insurance company in the morning? Or do I take it to a bodyshop (slowly), and see how much they think it'll cost to fix. I can probably get a wing and bumper from a scrappy, but that metal behind the bumper will have to be new I suspect.

What do people think? Particularly about the council coming looking for the person that's damaged their barrier....

Puzzled as to why your fiancee lost control and then two more cars do the same whilst you we there. Did the Police not think this strange and look for a possible cause other than brain fade? Was there something on the road surface causing the skidding,or have I got hold of the wrong end of the stick?

Sorry to hear that, and glad she's ok.

I hit a lampost in my first car, and the council made me pay for the inspection (£80) even though they found it to be ok.

Was there somthing on the road then with the other cars spinning?

I've not heard of a council chasing for damages before, but I spose it's entirely possible. As for the car, I'd get it priced up myself before calling the insurance company. Sounds like a lucky escape for the Mrs.

thanks for the replies guys. Wedding still on. I think there was something on the road. The officer at the time thought the surface looked ok but it was damp.
Heres a pic of the car.

What you cant see is this sort of barrier:

Which has nice silver paint all the way to the top and along and back down again. You'd never guess but the barrier was painted blue.

Well, we both have then. That is what I was wondering... Isn't there something slightly suspect if numerous cars are losing control at the same spot? Diesel/oil spillage etc..

I'm with you guys. But I couldn't see anything nor could the police man when he was there. I did call it back into the police and they said they would tell the council highways to come and put something down on the road just incase.... Doesn't help me mind! I have the reg of the cars in question though just incase I need to prove it was slippy out there.

Wasn't the A454 was it?

Shortly after the lamppost incident (see above) I spanked my first rear driver there in exactly the same way.

While I was waiting for recovery 2 cars spun on the roundabout....

I think so. Walsall road, portobello island. I've seen a suzuki vitara loose it there as well, but it sounded like they'd put a V8 in it somehow! and were giving it plenty.

That damage looks pretty light, definitely get it fixed yourself for less that the total insurance quote. If you can wait to get parts from a scrappy etc. then you'll obviously save a lot. If the council persue you for the costs of fixing the barrier then write them a nice letter with all the details about the slippery road (maybe diesel spill?) and the details of the other cars that skidded - they'll probably drop the case then. Take the fiancee out for a nice meal, tell her nothing matters as long as she's ok. Maybe even both go to a skid pan for a training session together at some point? Might not be such a bad idea if she's new to RWD and with it looking like a severe winter ahead.

Enjoy the rest of your evening.

You know what. Last week I e-mailed her about using the skid pan at Coombe. We both agreed it might be a good idea...... damn. Did I tempt fate?

Phill I see you're from Wolves - if you need I know of a very honest little body shop in Shrewsbury, they knocked out a ding and resprayed a wing on my 911 for only £210. PM me if you'd like the details.
