Lambo engine for RS5?

Power struggle continues at Audi

I have the power
I have the power
Another day, another rumour surrounding the power-freaks at Audi.

This time there are reports that the German firm is considering stuffing a Lamborghini V10 into the A5, presumably just because they can.

The result will be an RS5 with an M3 annihilating 500bhp going through all four wheels.

Audi is said to be moving the RS4 and RS5 apart like two naughty schoolchildren, and giving the RS5 a different, even more ferocious, engine.

Leaving nothing to chance in its forthcoming battle with the M3 coupe, word has it Audi will look to the 5.0 litre Lambo Gallardo V10 engine which has 500 bhp in the small supercar.

This engine has already been boosted to 580 bhp in the soon-to-arrive Audi RS6, albeit with twin turbochargers, prompting some commentators to suggest Audi may have gone too far.

No official details have been launched for the RS5 but expect it to feature pumped-up bodywork like the RS6, with wheel-arches reminiscent of the original ur Quattro.

Friend of mine rekoned the A5 sales are pretty dissapointing - s i'm not surprised that Audi is trying to create something special for the line if this is correct.

This is just getting boring.

How about spending the £s on special weight saving materials instead of silly engines?

That is silly talk, there in no such a thing as "gone too far"

Why bother, this is not some sports car light weight special, it is a biggish Saloon for execs to cruise around in comfort, mill up and down motorways and auto barns not thrash around country lanes.

How about something a bit more radical.. Make it RWD and move the engine back to between the front wheels or... how about a boosted W8? That would be very short, moving the weight back to a far more reasonable balance point.

I think Audi needs to realise that not only is this engine borrowing damaging Lambo, but also shows how lazy Audi are! Rather than taking starting from scratch or with some VAG rubbish, and creating a masterpiece, they just go to lambo, for every hot version. What will the next S8 have? An LP640 V12?
And how do they only get a 9% power rise, 50hp with twin turbos? BMW got 50 extra hp out of the 3.0ltr six for the 335i...

What is it actually improving, though? Big deal, they rape a Lamborghini for it's engine and throw it into an average coupe. Wow, look at the technological achievement!

99% of the buyers wouldn't notice the performance difference between the V8 or the V10, anyway.

Just marketing for people with smaller penises than wallets.

More power I say...I love reading about crazy powerful Audi and Mercs. Weight saving just don't sound as sexy [save that for cars like the BMW tti thing, which I actually really like]. If you had the dosh to buy a 580bhp estate [and I'd guess you could easily afford the fuel], then who wouldn't?!?!

I don't see why this should be a surprise, it's typical VAG engineering. In a few years expect to see the ex-Lambo engine across the board, from Skoda to Seat. Mounted in front of the axle of course.

Perhaps VAG wasn't the best new owner for Lamborghini after all? I don't think any real enthusiasts expected to see it's wares pilfered like this.

Power is great stuff, keep it coming. Weight saving needs more attention paid on it, these new cars are becoming sluggish and relying too heavily on electronics to make them corner.

Audi have to be careful, why would anybody buy an Audi R8 if you can buy a more powerful two-door from the same company but cheaper?

Surely it's a VAG engine, since the Gallardo V10 was developed under them in the first place.

Still confused there though, is this DEFINATELY the Laborghini V10 they are turboing (sounds crazy) when Audi already have their own V10 turbo for the RS6...
