Scooby STI Cheaper Than Expected
New hardcore WRX STI will cost 25 grand
Subaru has released prices for its new Impreza WRX STI and it is cheaper than expected.
The 2.5 STI range-topper will cost £24,995 on-the-road - £1,600 less than the old model and much lower than predicted.
Even for the large amount of people who can’t stand the looks of the new Scooby, 25 grand for 0-60 mph in 4.8 seconds and a 155 mph does seem good value.
The WRX STI is due to make its first UK appearance at the Autosport International Show at Birmingham’s NEC on January 10 to 12.
First deliveries are expected next March.
The STI is arguably the best-looking of the new Imprezas with a WRC look-a-like body and large blistered wheelarches.
The 2.5 litre boxer engine has 300 bhp and there will be leather/Alcantara interior as standard.
Perhaps when the Enzo replacement is unveiled we should all pretend to be very underwhelmed and maybe they'll chuck it out for a cheap as chips price!
We should out-market the marketeers...
... apart from the rear window, lights and hatch aperture, obviously the car was designed starting from the front and they'd only got to the end of the rear doors by whatever the Japanese equivalent of 5pm Friday
-off-home-time is.I guess it's about what you want from a car. I don't recall the old scoobies looking "fantastic".
As a drivers car, I think 10/10.
IMHO

-off-home-time in Japan.I reckon they did a lot of delegation on this Rexie project. The big boss designed the front spoiler and lights then delegated the rest, his 2IC did the bonnet and delegated on, and so on. By the time they got to the rear they were down to the tea boy.
The price is pretty good, but I'd probably save a bit longer and harder and get the Nissan GT-R.

People are already pumping up the expected UK price of Nissan to nearly £60k ------WOT --- WHY???? - Hopefully a non greedy Jap exporter corrects this if its £33k in USA I can see no reason why it shouldnt be c £36k in UK with a good margin for all concerned - mak a nice second hand purchase at £19k... as will the new STi at £12k - I bought mine keenly second hand and still couldnt keep up with depreciation.
Also guys have you heard about the fleet of new compact 4wd Alfa GTAs?! - Some beauts on the way - just wish they could get that V6 to 350 / 350 (balanced 3.6 version perhaps) - then there is the bargain new Vauxhall 4wd - same £ as STi and over 300 bhp out the box (but with twin turbo, you can be assured of a quick tweak to c 370bhp?)- Euro import for £21k? - New BMW 1 series @ c 330 bhp in a compact is good value too (would hve much preferred the standard hatchback instead of carting that grafted on coupe rear around for the hell of it - then there is the new 'RS' version of the new Audi TT Coupe....
We are going to be spoiled for choice next year - if you happend to have £29k in your back pocket - there lies the rub....
Problem is we will probably be at Civil war with our 'government' by then over cars / roads / environment etc - finish up Mad Max style with mavericks venturing out without plates and anti-radar paint for a blast.
Just get freight off the roads onto a linear motor rail system powered by green electricity from off-shore wind farms, tidal power etc and remove the frustration and most of the potential danger off the roads which, yes, can be allowed to be a recreational pleasure - not a grind... - as it once was..

Forget about the fact its a Subaru Impreza and look at the fact its a powerful 4WD hatch for a very good price!
Many people dont like major changes to a model line, but they seemed to have come to the end of the old Impreza as whatever they did to it it got slated as it never looked like the 'classic' model.
