Silverstone Performance Open Day

Silverstone Performance is throwing open its doors to TVR, Toyota and Lotus owners for a bit of pre-Christmas fun on Saturday 15 December.

The open day will run from 9am to 4pm (for passenger laps, sign on from 8am).

Activities will include:
- Various SP cars will be running on the Grand Prix Circuit for passenger laps with SP director Phil James (aka PHer BossCerbera). Five rides available in each car, subject to track stoppages. (More rides will be available if time permits.)
- Dyno runs on the Weltmeister dyno only £30 (limited to 25 places so book early to be assured of a place!)
- Free geometry checks
- A snack van will be on site for hot drinks and burgers all day - first bacon butty is on the house if you arrive before 10am

The SP cars being driven on track will include:

- Toyota MR2 SP240. SP's turbocharged and tweaked roadster with 240bhp/240lb-ft "A wolf in sheep's clothing."
- Toyota Corolla SP Compressor. SP's supercharged and tweaked hot hatch with 230bhp/190lb-ft "About as fast as I'd want to go in a hot hatch."
- TVR Cerbera 4.5. My SP-fettled trackday favourite "Silverstone's a power circuit, the Cerbera's got plenty of power. Perfect."
-TVR Boss Cerbera. I will be using the track opportunity for some shakedown laps after its year-long engine development programme. The Boss's last outing was London Thunder in November 2006.

Customer(s) cars:
- Lotus SP-K. Supercharged and intercooled by SP to serve up over 250bhp/185lb-ft "Really brings the Lotus chassis to life... after an hour in the lanes I had the adrenaline shakes"

Call Tracey (Mrs Trackside) on 01327 855772 to reserve a ride; to book a dyno run; or to RSVP if you'd just like to pop along for the social. The more the merrier, there's loads of space to park.

You can also book your own car in for the trackday by contacting www.goldtrack.co.uk

Background:
SP was formed in 2005 out of the ashes of former TVR main dealer Silverstone TVR. Alongside the TVR specialism, SP established a relationship with Toyota Motorsport to tune selected Toyota models - in particular the MR2 roadster (tested by PH in 200bhp guise in 2006) and the Corolla T-Sport. With expertise and development miles racked up on the 1.8 litre 1ZZ and 2ZZ engines in these models, SP has latterly turned its attention to forced induction conversions for Lotus cars using the 1ZZ and 2ZZ. One or two customers with Lotus SP-Ks will be along on the open day.

To accommodate the growing business, this summer SP acquired a large double workshop at the Silverstone Grand Prix Circuit with four service bays, a dyno cell and ample storage for project cars. The dyno cell is sub-let to, and operated by, Weltmeister Technologies Ltd, run by ECU-guru Chris Davis. SP and Weltmeister collaborate and share expertise on tuning projects.

Why should everyone go?
"It's the first time we've opened the doors to everyone and got all the toys out for one last blast before Christmas. It will be fun, especially if the track's wet."

A lot, but much of the time has been chewed up by lead time of bespoke parts.

Well just back from Silverstone, was bloody cold but a free bacon buttie and numerous cups of tea it sort of warmed up a bit, watched the crew fix the front onto the MR2 that someone ( un-named biggrin ) managed to rip off before it even got onto the track, put the 540 onto the rolling road to see if the thrashing up the M40 added a bit more power ( it did, up 25 brake hehe ) then over to the track for some action, was an open pit Goldtrack day so plenty of nice stuff there, GT3 RS being the most common and the most smashed, 2 I think including a 57 plate black one that managed to hit the only tyre wall available so an expensive day for someone!

Had three laps in the newly repaired MR2 which is a little rocket, Phil chasing down a Tuscan Challenge car and keeping with it through Stowe albeit a little sidewards yikes and then into 11 2ERO for another blast round.

So all in all a bloody good day and thanks to Phil for getting it organised.

You can name me paperbag I can only be in awe of Matt and Phil's restraint and not stringing me up on the ramp. After five months of getting the car back on the road, I get into it an stack it into a barrier paperbag

I can't even say it was an impressive crash because I was only doing 10 mph

A big thanks to Phil, Tracey and the rest of the SP guys. It was a bloody cold day but good to see everyone. I was in awe of the standard of metal on track. Never seen so many GT3RS' in one place before.
Big thanks to Phil for the spin out in the Cerb - you make it look so bloody easy power sliding at over a hundred! Absolutely huge fun!!!

Had a fun morning, gutted and relieved in equal measure that I had a shoot off before a lap with Phil, boy Cloth was very cold and definitely on the turn. Especially relieved when Phil's final words were "Oh that's a shame, I was particularly looking forward to scaring you out on track"... yikes A lucky escape maybe hehe

One of these days Phil yes

Cheers to everyone else at SP and Mrs TS for the free butty token biggrin... good to see a few old faces and meet some new ones too. thumbup

Thank you to everyone for coming.

We'll do it again next year - mixed blessing winter track days... Silverstone GP circuit at the weekend is a plus point. Cold tyres a minus point - EVERY session had a stoppage in it because of an off, not to mention the six cars I saw spin either in front of, or behind, me.

Sinclair: the longer you leave it, the worse it will be... evilwink

Great day today, really enjoyed it. Thanks to Phil, Matt, Chris and Tracey for putting it all on and making it happen. It was absolutely bloody freezing up there today, but then again if you go to Silverstone in December, what do you expect! Thanks also to Nick for taking me out in his SP-K Elise which was stunning; goes like the clappers and what a fabulous noise, I need one! smokin

Phil, I'll bring my lid to the next one too and see if you can scare me in the MR2...and then maybe the Cerbie...wink

Took a few pictures during the day, the best of which can be found here.

I know, I was stood behind Calum when he was, er, having a chat with you...paperbag

I think the guys in the neighbouring garage were a bit perplexed when he hopped (literally) over to them and ripped their driver's wristbands off, only to discover he'd got the wrong white prototype...rolleyes
