Plates deemed too rude for the roads

March may be the time for new born lambs and daffodils, but it isn’t looking so sweet in the DVLA offices on the release of new plates. They have suddenly realised that 08 on a vehicle registration has left some interesting connotations.

A team of their finest civil servants have been asked to draw up a list of new plates that are too rude for our eyes. It isn’t just the “OB” look of the new plates, but from distance the 8 can be interpreted as an S.

On top of the banned list are any KN and BO prefixes along with 08 HAG, 08 LUT and 08 LAG – due to the S problem - and complete registrations such as WHO8 GAY and RU08 ENT have got the axe.

Gotta love the way the new number plate arrangement was intended to allow interesting words so they could raise revenue selling them, at the same time as they clamped down on changing the spacing and turned into prudes. Joined up thinking for a happier Britain!

How sad. You already have to 'make up' words in txt speak and numberplate speak to make them rude.

It's like saying PEN 1S is rude. It's not at all, unless you read 1's as I's, and if people are, they need to remember I's are not present on UK numberplates

I've heard that J1 HAD isn't considered PC anymore - Hannah Aime Dawson must be very annoyed her chosen plate had to go....

I saw that plate on a BMW in North West London many years ago (circa 1995)
