Taken off Transaction 2007

UK road haulage contractors have once again been forced back on to the roads to take "legal protest action" in the form of truck convoys from various regions of the UK on Tuesday 29th April 2008, converging on Park Lane London, at approximately 10.00am.

A coffin that will represent the demise of the UK road haulage industry will be carried on the back of a "low loader" from Spalding in Lincolnshire to Park Lane, it will then be escorted by the police to the House of Commons, where upon a letter from "TransAction 2007" representing the voice of independent UK operators will be handed to the Right Hon Mr Derek Wyatt MP. The letter will contain facts and statistics that are crippling the British road haulage industry.

"British Hauliers" are in desperate need of rebated road fuel to be competitive against foreign truck operators working in the UK.

The Metropolitan Police have given their consent and full cooperation for this protest to take place.

thing ive noticed is their "haulage industry" angle

they are not trying to help us general public folk as we didnt exactly help out in the last bout of protests, so if they are succesfull they will only be looking for a haulage company benifit and probbably wont be negotiating on behalf of the general public.

The haulage industry brings the food you eat to the shops you buy it from.
Their costs are our costs, although not as directly.

Its a shame we as a nation as too inept and lazy to actually do anything about this.

We should be joining these guys on their protest, because this is going too far.

When will enough be enough?!! 85p of the £1.03p per litre is tax straight to the government. tell how this makes sense! tell me why we as a country accept this kind of abuse!

We all work damn hard for the money we earn, so why when we've earned our increased salary do the government have a right too it, just because they cannot keep control of their finances! its ridiculous.

If this kind of tax abuse went on in germany or france...do you think they would sit back and let it happen?

I tell you what, you ignore the fact that we are a Major world economic power, and look at the why our government is treating us, and you start to see similarities to third world dictorial governments.

It seems these days that they dont even need a reason to introduce a tax...they just do it...and we as people sit back and take it.

I tell you what, they are not going to change their ways anytime soon.

Think why we pay taxes......the whole point of them is to benefit the country and the people that live in it. Yet our taxes go to lining the pockets of MP's and feeding babies in eastern european countries! (Tell me how the government can even begin to justify us as people paying taxes which go towards benefits for immigrants!)

If only we as a nation could unite to fight for our money and just refuse to pay these taxes!! i mean, think about it...what are they going to do? the jails are overcrowded...so they cant send you there!!

how about using some of that ridiculous £4 billion extra cost for the olympics to subsidize the tax requirements from fuel taxes.

There.............i need a breath..

Rant over....man this gov P****s me off.......and we (due to our lack of solidarity as a nation) are powerless to stop them!

Can you think of an easier way to rise the taxes this govt needs to pay for it's welfare state, high immigration and a couple of wars none of us want, if so then why not stop bleeting and become a politician and change things. As for Johnny foreiger in Fance and Germany not taking it, I didn't notice much difference in price of fuel last time I went to France although don't know what Germany pays.

Your aim of solidarity might be enhanced if you didn't use untruths in your calculations.

Fuel at 103p a litre has tax of around 65p not 85p.

The oabove posted is correct it is 65p/ltr at 1.03.

Although come £1.10/ltr were paying 66p/ltr

So we are paying 64% in duty + VAT on fuel.

Does any one truly, really give a st about the fuel charges, and the ridiculous VED bands? I do, and I know that a lot people out there do as well, but our voices are just drowned out by the majority of lazy, un motivated or just plain ground down people in this country.

Ok, we pay 66p Fuel Tax on a litre of fuel, then we pay the vat, so actually we pay about 79p (or something?) out of every 1.10p litre.....hmmm, on top of that the UK North Sea produces 1 500 000 barrels of oil per day, and the goverment charges on that! It's called the "Government's share of the Gross Trading Profits of UKCS oil and gas companies" and it was ONLY 25% in 1996! What do you reckon it is know? With 110+ dollars a barrel an everyday reality?

http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/stats/corporate_tax/table11...

And have a look at the bottom line of this, those are millions they are talking about, ie, 1600 million, plus 6450 million.....that is a lot of money chaps.

The money per litre of fuel is bad, but the ridiculous VED on top has to be the final straw. Now, I can afford to pay, I don't want to but I can, but what about the people who are on low incomes? They will be made to really feel the pinch. Is the goverment going to up the basic wage to cover all these added costs? Even food is going up as it has to be delivered by vehicles? NO!

Lets all try and complain, make ourselves heard. Any one who tries deserves applause in my book!

Oh yeah!

I forgot, since the fuel price per barrel is so high, at least OUR GOVERMENT can slash their take on the price of a litre from 62% to maybe 25% eh? I DON'T THINK SO!!!

Why should they do that, do they suddenly not need money?

Unfortunately, they've made the country so expensive to run, what with the large increase in size of the public sector, dodgy PFI deals also reaming the public purse and other wastage, there's probably not much room for manoeuvre. Oh and using taxpayers' money to prop up private banks when things gets tough for them...
