New V8 For VXR8

More power from new 6.2-litre LS3

The Vauxhall VXR8 is to get a newV8 this summer, with more power and better performance.

Out goes the LS2 5967cc unit and in comes the LS3 6162cc V8 with high-flow cylinder heads, new pistons and an enhanced valvetrain.

Power is up by around 14bhp to 431bhp at 6000rpm.

This translates to a reduced 0-60mph time for cars with automatic transmissions (down from 5.0 seconds to 4.9) and improved in-gear acceleration for manual models (50-70mph in 3rd gear drops from 2.8 to 2.6 seconds; 30-50mph in 2nd gear drops from 2.0 to 1.9 seconds).

80-100mph times fall from 4.3 to just 4.0 seconds in 4th gear.

According to Vauxhall, despite the improvements in performance fuel consumption stays the same as outgoing models.

Buyers for the LS3-engined VXR8s also receive the choice of an all-new body colour - Heron White – at no extra cost, as well as the option of factory-fit 20-inch rims for the first time on this model.

Prices for both manual and automatic versions of the LS3-powered VXR8, which are on sale now, rise by £485 to £35,695.

Ouch that's going to hit those that 'invested' in the earlier model substantially. Residuals on big cars are low especially thanks to Ken's policies.

This new gen engine also likes forced induction so expect so see many more 500hp monsters on our streets for less than £40k.

Try £12k for the original ones now makes for tempting buys however VED is a pain.

Well, I'll look forward to when these are a couple of grand in a few years time. I imagine they'll be a good prospect for aftermarket tuning too.

because you'd go and buy a 2nd hand quick Audi, Bmw, Mercedes, Jaguar, Porsche etc. All of which wont depreciate half as quick as a tuned up new omega (which essentially it is) in Oz and New Zealand these cars are king, but due to our 2nd hand market they don't look quite so appetizing??biggrin

But seriously - if your in the market for a 400-500bhp car this is pretty cheap. Yes the M5 is much better however in 3 years time the M5 is worth £30k less than its list price there is no way this will only be worth £5k in 3 years time. % drop might be more on this one however £k (which to me is king) is vastly less.

In value for money terms it is a cracking car, and with the rising costs of owning and running a big powerful car, these types of cars are only going to become cheaper 2nd hand, its very much going to be a buyer's market. Which is excellent news for people like us who want these kind of cars!!!lick

I'd expect Vauxhall to instantly drop the current stock by 10 grand - just like they did with the last of the monaro's at the expense of a lot of customers

If I'd just ordered a VXR8 I'd be worried about that.

Also I still fail to see the comparisson between the VXR8 and the current M5, the m5 is in a totally different league and the VXR8 is only just on a par with the old M5's performance

The cars you list are completely different to the VXR8 in my opinion. And I coundn't care less what badge it has on, its the car that matters. Until very recently, I've been running around in a Skoda if ya know what I mean!?

You better hope there are enough mad people to buy them then as otherwise there wont be many second hand bargains to be had.

Different leagues when I comes to power? Power is power, it amounts to quality, delivery and utilization
