I'm thinking about getting a double din head unit and the cheapest I've seen is a company/website called "Car Audio Giant" - http://caraudiogiant.co.uk/

Has anybody used these as I usually prefer to use somewhere that I know, but these are the cheapest I've seen for this head unit...

A cheap one will cost about £150 and will be nothing special

The Panasonic and McIntosh HUs are most definitely special and although they are hard to locate new, pre-owned models by ICE enthusiasts can be found for under £250. More than £150 yes, but light years better and def worth the difference

Actually if I wanted to fill in a 2-DIN slot I would get a McIntosh MX-406 and the matching twin meters - super cool, and to many experts the best sounding HU ever made.

Those look nice, but wayyyyyyyy outta my price bracket.

I've ordered that stereo:

£140 including postage biggrin

Now all I need are the 453 extra adapters to make it work with my Passat rolleyes

Edit:

To be honest, I would love to have spent £££ on a new all singing, all dancing HU, but all I want to be able to do is play my iPod in the car - And since my wired ipod adapter no longer works with the OEM stereo (or in fact any OEM stereo), this is as good an alternative as any.

Let us know what it's like - I was looking at putting the same one in my S3 to replace the utter joke that is the Audi Concert II + iPod interface that came with the car.

Bit of a resurrection, but:

All fitted:

Before:

Hmm, I've got to fit all this lot...

What a mess.....

It Works!!

And it fits... I didn't use/need the cage - not sure how I would have fit it anyway

The end result

It plays and controls my ipod brilliantly, it'll scroll through and pick through the menu and actually show text properly - far better than an OEM one ever could. It took me about an hour an a half to fit, but only because of the fact that I read the instructions and because of the bloody mess the ICE people made when they fitted my Parrot kit.

Note that where it says "If you have a VW, change this fuse"... Don't - it won't work if you do.

I can't recommend these enough as I've phoned/mailed them loads and they've pretty much bent over backwards to help me smile

Hi Guys,

Don't know if this helps but I did my research into Car Audio Giant when my friend was looking to buy from there and found they were linked to Uplands, the South West Audio Chain. I called one of the stores to make sure it was legit and yes it is. I've used Uplands before and found them to be really good, helpful and very knowledgeable.

After she ordered she received her order within a couple of days and says she's really happy with it. Seems like the cheapest site for a lot of things so go for it I reckon :-)
