US driver needs UK insurance - Advice, please

A friend of mine is coming over from the USA to join me on a driving holiday and I'd like him to drive my car.

However, my insurer won't add him to the policy because he's not got a UK license or history.

I can't imagine this is a first... Any suggestions?

Norwich Union, do they still do that pay per day insurance?

Depends on the Insurer.

A company I know will put temporary drivers on. They will apply a loading for non-UK driving licences, taking into account things like experience in driving on the left.

For example there are plenty of Argentinian polo players who come over every season, and once they've got a couple of seasons UK driving experience, they don't get loaded any more.

Hmmm. The other thing is that the driving will include a European tour. Maybe he could get AA travel insurance?
