I guess it's the same is a Hyundai I-30 underneath?
I think the Hyundai just pips it on looks but I'm not sure which is cheaper/has the better warranty.
They make a lot of sense for exactly the kind of purchase you're contemplating IMO, I wouldn't want one for myself but for somebody not as bothered about driving pleasure and willing to keep it for the full 7 years they seem ideal.

I've been encouraging my mum to have a look at one, I've been in the i30 and was very impressed with the quality of the cabin - and everything really. Would be silly not to consider it alongside the usual suspects.

Are Kia the same company as Hyundai these days? I must pay attention...edit: wiki says "Kia's bankruptcy in 1997, part of the Asian financial crisis, resulted in the company being acquired in 1998 by South Korean rival Hyundai Motor Company". Well I'll be.

Great cars. I tested the 1.6 CRDi LS 5 door - highly impressed. Super quiet on the M way, very comfy seats, big boot.
I like it in Black.
The only drawback I thought at the time was the fact the 1.6d only had a 5 speed gear box. The engine was pretty punchy basically the outputs were the same as the Golf GT TDI 115 PD but achieved from a 1.6ltr rather than a 1.9ltr.
All come with ipod connection, in fact on the LS the only option is ESP!
Also note the engines are cam chain --- so no costly cambelt changes every few years.

Sounds good, either going to go for the 1.4, or 1.6 as I like the look of the spec list for the LS, and you can't get it in the 1.4. With fuel prices going up, their is 2 mpg in it, but not that much noticable different in power.
Although they are currently doing a deal on a diesel engine, for the same price as the petrol one, but just fancy getting a light little 1.4 that will need a good thrashing

Mum wanted a new 'shopping car' recently and test drove the Bravo due to all the financial incentives, wasn't any great shakes. Ended up buying a Skoda Fabia which is a vastly nicer car, IMO, and is also much cheaper. Plus has your aux input for your iPod - what more could you need!?
I had a 1.6 Petrol Pro-Ceed for a 24 hour evaluation through work, and I must admit it was a very good car. The interior still uses lower grade materials than most of the european hatches, but it was very well screwed together. I thought the ride/handling was very good indeed - much better than a Golf or Astra and only bettered slightly by the Focus.
I'd certainly recommend anyone to go try one, in fact I'm trying to convince the Girlfriend to get one for her next run-around.

One thing to remember is this would you buy a 1.4ltr petrol Golf (non supercharged and non turbo charged)? nope as its very underpowered. Its better opting for the slightly larger unit which has more torque.
When I tested one over 3 days combined for the 1.6CRDi was roughly 56mpg and it only had 300miles on it, and that was brim to brim which showed the OBC to be very accurate. They state that the 1.6 diesel has a combined cycle of 62mpg so wait until it has around 10k miles on it and you will easily see that you will not get close to that with a 1.4ltr in a portly family car - moreso if you intend to "need a good thrashing"!
The LS is the top of the range only omits ESP - and I'd probably spec it with the ESP. It also has dual zone climate control whereas lewsser models just have air con - unless you have had dual zone climate control or even climate control you will not see it as that much of a benefit but its one big upgrade over normal air con.

Also its a timing chain so in the 7 years you'd normally have to change cam belts twice due to age and I guess that would be easily £800 for both services.
Also just popped onto Autotrader and you can buy 07 reg Ceed's from £7.8k screen price for cars with 4k miles... so that means 6 years warranty & 96k miles warranty left.... Or think of it another way assume you pay screen price then assuming it will be worthless after 6 years (which it will not) then it will be depreciating at £1,300pa or £108pcm.

Or buy this one a diesel for £5.4k and spend a grand getting it fixed down a body shop. cheap cheap car.
