Video: Chevrolet Camaro
Footage shows new Camaro not going very fast...
After years of concepts, teasers, movie cameos and who knows what else Chevrolet has finally unveiled the production Camaro. The occassion is marked with a nice video of the car driving around and the official tag line is a 'fun, efficient sports car for the 21st century’.
The Camaro will be up against cars like the similarly-styled Dodge Challenger, the Nissan 350Z and rumours of a high-perfromance Z28 version are still circulating. The car is expected to come with either a six-speed manual or auto 'box, with a 3.6-litre direct-injection V6 with 300bhp and 273 lb ft of torque. The 6.2L LS3 V8 is rated at 420bhp (314kW) and 408lb-ft (553Nm) of torque in manual guise and the 6.2L L99 V8 is good for around 400bhp (299kW) and 395lb-ft (535Nm) of torque in automatic form.
See it in action below and you too can wish it was going faster...

Relatively speaking, hey are. I get 24mpg average in my blown Mustang. One guy has had his 2006 Mustang, driven rather like that Camaro, up to 37mpg on a long run. Can't really complain about that. Of course, if you drive like an idiot, the mpg will drop but still (on mine) to no less than 19mpg. US readouts are in smaller US mpg which are oft quoted (incorrectly) as UK mpg.
I'm not going to put them up there with any VW BlueMotion but compared to European cars, they are fairly remarkable.

300bhp V6, reasonably stylish coupé with a decent RWD chassis from Holden underneath, will be available in RHD and hopefully still affordable by the time it reaches blightly.
It sounds brilliant, until you say it's a V6 Camaro and everyone then assumes it must be a lame piece of American crap. If they gave it a mild restyle and called it an Opel Manta or even Monza, many of the knockers would be falling over themselves to order one.
But I guess GM didn't get into such financial trouble by making perceptive and clever business decisions
