Anyone heard of Wanli Tyres? I bought some 2nd hand wheels recently, and 2 have Pirelli's on, the other 2 have Wanli's, which I've never heard of. I will probalby getthem swapped for a full set of pretty good F1's i already have, but should i bringthe Wanli's away with me, or simply leave them at the tyre place?
Wanli's are supposed to be ruddy awfull, I'd just get rid of them. Had a look at the tyre reviews on Which recently, they gave the Wanli S1095 a rating of 10%, here's what the review said:
'The 195/65 R15 V Wanli S1095 offers acceptable dry grip, but wet grip is very poor in every test. In fact, we found that the Wanli S1095 was so bad at braking in the wet that it travelled nearly 20m further before stopping than the best tyre on test. Even though, like all the tyres we’ve tested, it passes all the minimum legal performance requirements, we recommend you Don’t Buy it. And if that doesn’t put you off, its availability is so poor you’re unlikely to find it anyway.'
hope this helps.

Ah, ok, I wonder if these were instrumental in the car they came form being written off. 'The 195/65 R15 V Wanli S1095 offers acceptable dry grip, but wet grip is very poor in every test. Thanks gents.
You know that feeling when you use brand new tyres in the wet, as though the release agent was still covering the tyre? Well the Wanlis I had never lost that feeling in their 15K miles. They don't last long either.
I heard the reason they are so poor is because they have a higher plastic:rubber ratio than normal. As I have no idea what the compound of tyres is, I thought the explanation acceptable especially in the face of the evidence.
I would further add that their dry weather performance is horrible too.
I bought cheap tyres for a car I hated. Never again.

"Not a bad tyre for it's price......hint: Don't drive in the rain."
though apparently they are great for drag-racing - i suppose the plastic melts easily and you get loads of traction
