What would be your ultimate dream road trip? What car, who with, where to and what's on the stereo?
Me first:

I would take my girl down to Rome via Monte Carlo, in a Lamborghini Miura SV (the red one with gold wheels) with a bit of Who's Next on the stereo.
That said, the Lambo V12 would be a fantastic soundtrack...

Judging by her username, she's a bird that likes two holes stuffed while watching Joe 90.

Lol, no I am a bloke, I am just a huge fan of 70's rock and roll lifestyle. Cmon, the Miura looks great in red/gold, surely? Autotrader has a Ferrari 246 Dino GTS from 1971, in red with gold wheels, for £125000, which is twice what I have seen most normal Dino's going for. But this isn't normal as it says the only recorded owner was a certain Mr Roger Daltrey.

Mind you, I really do like another idea of doing the same journey but in a black Porsche 356 speedster (the James Dean one), perhaps with some Led Zep?

I want to travel America in a spiral shape. Start with the coasts and the northern and southern borders, then come inland a little bit and do another circle and continue until i reach the middle of America. All in a 1960's Shelby Mustang like this

Now that is a good idea. Love the Shelby Mustangs, the '67 GT500 is my all time favourite American car, and 5th favourite car full stop.

Not wanting to piss on your chips, but aside from a few highlights the vast majority of america is as dull as a lib dem activist....vast stretches of farmland with proposterous 55mph limits - you'd become suicidal within a week. Why do you think the USA has so many serial killers - they all started out doing a road trip in a rental car.

For example, following your plan you would undoubtedly encounter Idaho - a state with so little going on that the best thing the could think of to put on their license plate is "Famous Potato".

Ford RS200, from North Yorkshire all the way to Tuscany via the Swiss Alps. In the winter. Music courtesy of The Cure, Killing Joke and Bauhaus.

Who with? Whoever would put up with the very idea, and going sideways round hairpin bends.

My thoughts exactly. That or a Jaguar XK120 coupe (with triple webbers) with a suitably classy brunette for company

I've driven many times all over the USA.
I've done alot of the West Coast and Mid West, and can say that Ginger is talking uninformed drivle.
The speed limits are usually 65-70 mph, and states are all different. Places like Ohio are mainly farmland, New mexico is wonderful as is Mojave and Nevada, are great, I also love the Pacific Northwest. Unlike Europe where you have to book about 20 years in advance to get anywhere to stay, in the USA you cazn be spontaneous and just go, and there are so many rest areas.

The only thing I'll say, is becareful with the car.
My 1970 Dodge Challenger is a daily driver, its been interesting to say he least.
I had a lifter fail on me 2 weeks ago. On an engine that has covered about 3000 miles on a car thst is in better condition then when it left the factory.

The Pan American Highway. All of it. Need more than one car though. For the South and Central American parts a Bowler Nemesis would hit the spot. For the USA part a AM V8 Vantage Volante (the old one). In to Canada and Alasksa the 4X4 makes a return with a classic Range Rover.

Mrs M & I have driven to Italy before via Holland, Belgium, Lux, France, Germany, and Austria.

But, that was an itinerary drive.

A meandering route taking in the likes of Spa, Nordschliefe, Stelvio, Grossglockner, Salzburgring, Gotthard Pass etc etc in a 275GTB/4 would tick all the boxes yes
