Been watching prices recently, Has anyone noticed what bargains are out there at the moment? Not looking at cars older than say 5 years..

From 30k to around 44 one could currently buy.. AMG SL55, Porsche 996TT, M3 V8, M5 V10, M6 V10, Bentley Conti GT, Maser QP or Gransport, nuts isnt it?

SL65 AMG (V12 biturbo lick ) needs to get there too, awesome machine.

Saw a nice example in black, parked up in Birningham a week or so ago (nr Innovation Court in Edmund St).

I think Conti GT's look as bad as when they were first launched. IMO, they are very bland

From the million other threads I would say yes lol. They reason why has also been discussed daily ie petrol, tax, vastly reduced finance availability, manufacture increasing warranty rates, recession and so on.

The problem is the high end cars cost a bit to maintain with all the technology nowadays and less reliable engines in some, and many naive individuals will buy 'em and not maintain them.

Just make sure you have a warranty with it. In the case of the M5 there are 2 year old cars still under warranty going for 35k. That's a manufacturers-warrantied 500bhp+ V10 super-saloon for not really much £££.

Couldn't agree more.

I wonder though if it will entice people who can "just" afford said bargain high end cars to buy them (afterall, they're getting a LOT of car for the money) btu then not be able to run them - either due to the daily running costs (hence one of the reasons for original low cost - high tax, low mpg etc.) but then also just average servicing, warranty and repair work as well as expensive tyres etc.

Such cars are vastly different maintenance prospects which I think will catch people out.

edit; to summarise, I agree with Tonker. Well put - a 60k car's worth of bills for 20k.

i've seen a few SL500s for under £20k, i remember about this time last year the cheapest i could find was £26k.
X5s for £8k a plenty, i think 6 series have got alot of depreciation to go yet, im suprised the cheapest is 18k to be honest.
I saw a z4 for around the 7-8k mark earlier.

I need to not be thinking this as I'm actually wondering if I can get rid of the Passat for something a bit less, well, Passat like - AND it be child friendly (well, a little child friendly anyway)

Hmm - A8. 3.0 Tdi - I mean, it can't be that much less economical than the Passat can it?

But don't forget they are only a re-bodied XJS.

I very much doubt we'll see £15k 4 year old E60 M5s. More likely they will hit the mid-twenties and level off for a while. The BMW warranty can be extended when it expires so that's not an issue.

It will still have service bills of a £60k car but anyone who thinks otherwise is a muppet.

I'm pretty sure it took longer for them to hit those levels, and then only the astro-mileage cars (of which there are always a lot).

Once they drop under 30k the number of people who can afford to buy them (or at least think they can) increases a fair bit.

That said; no I agree they won't hold their value well, but I think your outlook is little on the pessimistic side!

I know, but a re-bodied XJS with an Aston Martin badge. Don't need one, don't need the fuel and maintenance liability, but.......
