I have seen a load of piggy back chips on ebay at the moment for diesel cars claiming around a 35 bhp gain for £24 + p&p.
My question to the P/H massive is has anyone on here bought one and are they any good.

Seeing as a complete remap won't give you 35bhp in most cases, i would say that is rubbish.

The answer is obvious really if you think about it.

I would say an emphatic NO.

They'll more than likely fk up your ECU and cause no end of problems that won't be repairable under warranty.

I piggy backed 5 of them at once, 175bhp for £125. Bargain.

er...
no.
at best they kid the ECU into over fuelling the engine the engine via the temperature sensor leading to lots of black smoke and nowt much else. At worse you'll wash your bores and seize the engine.

On a turbo diesel 35bhp gains are possible, but these chips ain't the ones that'll do that. Spend a good few quid more and go to a reputable dealer who can also prove the power gains on a rolling road.

You will get more power from a bag of McCain's crinkle cuts.

Cylinder wall wetting is a massive problem with older style diesels that have poor fuelling control and left at or near idle for long periods of time, it was an issue with gensets I used design. My understanding is that at idle the thermal losses are such that the diesel condenses on the cylinder wall, washes the oil from the bores and leads to accelerated wear.

What these chips do is mess with the fuelling and enriches the mixture across the board, leading to a similar scenario.

Iain

Isn't it just a case of a bit of parallel wiring using a resitor to do the same .... smile

Meet your chip, simply a resistor that will over fuel the engine and ruin it.

Worth about 0.5p each.

Go ahead, buy one, it'll be fine. rolleyes

i wouldnt touch one with a 10ft bardge pole .

all it does is raise the rev limit slightly , if your lucky might even raise the fuel for you so dont blow lol .

there cheap for a reson and are in the same catogry as electric superchargers , st .

I'd imagine not, seeing most people on here are aware of how a car works.
To get more power you put more fuel AND AIR into an engine in the right mixture.you can think about upping the compression too.
