When approaching a tunnel it is good advice to:

a) Put on your sunglasses.
b) Check tyre pressures.
c) Change to a lower gear.
d) Tune your radio to a local channel.

This question is was requested by the EU to prevent you plunging into a tunnel full of burning vehicles. I'd have thought the obvious was the absent answer, turn your headlights on. The 'correct' answer is d) however.

Now you know.

Really?

That's stupid lol. I've just taken my test 2 months ago, and it was quite easy really.. Some/Most of the questions are common knowledge that anyone who is grown up enough to drive should pass.

So to avoid a potential hazard in a tunnel, you should take your eyes off the road and start fiddling with the radio?

some local ones are broadcast inside the tunnel though

still dunno what help it would be, emergency traffic news "stop, burning tunnel!"

We found Mont Blanc Tunnel radio most entertaining....

Serious safety announcements warning that if you exceed the speed limit by 1mph or dont keep at least 2 blue markers between you and the car in front the nice friendly gendarms will be waiting with guns and even bigger trucheons to ram home.....

....followed by hardcore german techno trance (You know the type that make you drive faster)

Incidently someone caught us up in the tunnel (We were bang on the limit) and they were promptly waved in by the police at the other end...heavy fines IIRC.

No No No!!!!

1. Windows down.
2. Lower gear.
3. CHECK YOUR MIRROR... for the sneaky traffic biatch who was hiding behind that van all along the D/C..KNOWING you were going to give it the beans when you hit the tunnel.
4. Smile at her when she passes you at the speed limit.

Great idea, so do you know the frequency for the local radio stations? surely this is pointless as it only applies to foreign countries where the radio station is likely to be in a language you don't understand.

I would venture it should only apply to longer tunnels, most of which relay a radio signal with traffic and safety news through the tunnel. They also conveniently signpost which frequency it is being broadcast on.

In theory this is great, but in practise, if no one else is in the car with you, you're far better off keeping your eyes on the road (IMHO).

So they have time to let the radio station know but not to switch on a 'do not enter' sign?

And obviously the police nicking people for speeding are not informed so they cannot stop drivers either.

No it wasn't. It's been 'tune your radio' since September last year.
