Bent friendly MOT? Why not make the car legal. Much more choice.

You've very little chance of finding a dodgy MoT station. There's a chance that you may be able to get a dodgy certificate from a back street boozer but it won't show up on the computer.

Even the few I'm aware of that may bend the rules a little won't consider passing anything that really is dangerous.

Those days are long gone. The best you can hope for today is the tester tapping a sidelight if it's not working.

my mot is fair enough i think , if light is out will just replace bulb or tap it , always tells me to get it sorted though and i respect that he has been fair enough and get it done.

at one time pepole would just slip the emishions test into the car next to it if you forgot to put you catlitic converter in but these days it not worth the risk to them .

but there is still some fair testers about .

The problem now, or not dpending on your POV is that VOSA patrol around checking up, they can sit around the corner while an MOT is done and the moment it's logged off the computer they come in and want to inspect the vehicle, it's happened twice with us in the past few weeks.

I know one on the SE London/NW Kent border but probably a bit far for you.

Harrow Service Centre on Pinner Road. Close to West London.
No bookings, you just turn up and wait. Weekends get very busy - be there at 7.30 on a Sat or 9.30 on Sun to make sure you're first.

I think the dodgy places still exist. I was having a chat to my 'herbs and spices' vendor about how I'd just shelled out to get a wheel bearing replaced and a caliper rebuilt prior to my MOT. He told me I should have got his mate to MOT it "50 quid and he'll pass anything". No thanks, I'd rather drive a safe car...

I'd be for naming & Shaming them hopefully VOSA pick up on it and shut them down/fine them. It will all help in increasing the safety of cars on the road & could save lives.

Frankly if your car cannot pass a very easy MOT test it is too dangerous to be on the road.
Id rather that they up scruenty to that of say Germany. Higher cost maybe but safer cars & IMHO would save more lives than any speed camera has.

The amount of crashes caused by cars with defects is a very small percentage, if you wanted to make a real impact on road safety increase restrictions on older and younger drivers!

Surely the restrictions should be placed on drivers in terms of skill level. Would you have a problem with Jackie Stewart or Lewis Hamilton driving a Veyron for example?

Just goes to show the goverment is not interested in road safety but increasing revenue from motorists!

That was the only thing that I ever needed "help" with for the MOT too
