Citroen GT Teaser

More teaser-tastic images - this time from Citroen...

Concept cars are often presented as a computer rendering but Citroen has taken it one step further with its new GT. A teaser for the car has been created in association with Sony and appears as a car from the Gran Turismo driving game.

It looks like the car could appear in the game at some point - as the Lotus Evora did at the British Motor Show - but little else is known about the concept. What we do know is that the car will appear at the Paris Motor Show at the beginning of next month.

It is clearly a low-slung sportscar and appears to have LED-style headlights arranged in slit formations on its nose. It looks like the car could have a large intake on the front and it has a very wide track.

It seems unlikely that such a car will ever make it into production but perhaps it will inspire something sporty from Citroen in the future. There's even a video to with the image, but it tells us little more than Sony and Citroen have teamed up. We'll have to wait and see...

Why bother with a concept if you never have any intention of building the actual finished car. Why not spend the money on building a good solid concept of a car they actually intend to build or to improve their existing range.

So.... rather than showing us a car they have no intention of building, they are not showing us a car they have no intention of building. wobble

When put like that, it kinda makes sense. Why both making an expensive concept car when you can just blow a fan at a piece of cloth draped over a lump of plastic?

Didn't they just borrow a mate's Audi R8 and put a cloth over it?

The usual argument is it lets the stylist (and occasionally engineers) brainstorm and some of that stuff filters down to production cars. The main reason is to generate or maintain publicity for your brand. I suppose the same justifications are applied to factory race teams.

That said, I think rather than numerous concepts and teasers, Lamborghini's approach is far, far cooler. Can't wait to see what turns up at Paris given the absensce of the usual spy shots etc.

So it's going to run on garlick, cheese and wine.
Ride quality will be excellent for driving over cobbled high streets.
The head lights will turn as the steering wheel does.
When you accelerate while out of gear the car lowers.

Delightful stuff!

This is the most pointless news story EVER.

Especially because its all based on pixels - not real life.

The reason is one of the saddest home truths in the modern car industry.

Basically, thanks to the internet, you can't launch a car at a motorshow any more. Instead of the suspense of the company president whipping the silk covers off a hitherto unknown new model, accompanied by the strobing flashbulbs of the world's press, you get 'official' pictures on the internet, to avoid insider speculation or leaks. The internet has destroyed the sense of surprise at motorshows because you know what everything looks like months before it's actually built.

Worse is the way the new car market has divided itself into 'sectors' and 'segments', to which every car firm feels the need to conform if it is to be competitive (who exactly goes into a showroom asking for a 'C-sector semi-luxury segment car'? No-one, exactly), which is why we never get 'concept cars' (ie completely new car concepts with which to excite the public's imagination) any more, just eye-catching supercars and luxury saloons with styling we are promised 'will appear on the rest of the range soon'. So Peugoet can bring out a V12-engined Le Mans-based racer for a motorshow, but the only bit that will go into production will be the nosecone on the 207 replacement frown

At last, a citroen i might be interested in seeing, rather than the rest of the dull crud they put on sale!

Still waiting for a WRC version of the C4 for the road, just like Subaru, Mitsubishi, Ford.

Thid is a poor effort by Citroen imo, not impressed at all, and expect more from what should really be a lairy car design manufacturer.

The words "Citroen" and "teaser" don't really go together, do they?

If it's as good as the last Citroen GT (the plastic and tin foil AX ). I'd be impressed, but it will either be a C5 coupe or won't even get to the show car stage, lets face it the only reason anyone buys a Citroen in this country these days is good finance or insurance deals.

First comment - some of you need to drive a new c5 or a c6 and realise why you are paying 25% more for a dull german car that performs worse and is seen on every housing estate drive.

However I agree that the 90's Citroens became dull and bland, give it another 3 years and the image will start to improve.

The problem is that there is always a distinct difference between Pug & Citroen - this is why there is no coupe cabriolet in the Citroen range, they cant be seen to be invading each others space. Citroen makes the best people carriers and quirky cars, pug make the lifestyle vehicles.

I was pretty impressed with the level of quality, quiet and spec in my C4 - I would honestly choose it over my noisy A3 TDi or plasticy Focus.

Anyway, variety is the spice of life. I too wish they would put the 1.6THP engine into the C4 coupe with 180-220 hp...... watch this space.

Even I have to say that the concept is purely a PR exercise

Citroen's are lovely, but they are still not up there with the Germans quality wise. TBH I don't think that matters as they excel in other areas, ie ride comfort and feel good factor as these days quality across all car manufacturers is very high anyway. The C5 and C6 are brilliant cars, especially the C6 which is just lovely. I own a W221 S Class and almost purchased a C6 as it's a much, much cooler car but unfortunately is let down in a couple of critical areas (seat comfort, engine performance & economy petrol or diesel) for a long distance mile muncher. Not to mention the dealers are abysmal (Mercs aren't much better!).

My next car will be a C6, for about £14k, to drive for a few years and put on astronomical mileage. At the end of the day a C6 is no S class from a solidity and quality point of view, perhaps on any level, but the large Citroens have something no German can can offer and that is style with a capital S.
