Well just had my renewal for my Breakdown cover from the RAC (don't really think this counts as naming and shameing ) and quite thoughtfully they tell me I have to do nothing, they'll just help themselves to £86 off my credit card
Now if I was a new customer according to the website I would only be charged £79 and via a Wilkinsons till receipt promotion, again via the website it's only £62 and you get a £10 Wilko's voucher
Why do so many companies do this to existing customers, the only hook for renewing is the possibilities of a No Claims Discount, but I drive a TVR so thats not going to happen (actually my only call out last year was when I borrowed racegirls dad's Festa)
Now I've got to cancel the renewal and phone back a day later and take up the Wilko's offer, unless there are any better deals out there?

Same deal with insurance companies, I have very rarely used the same company 2 years running, as you can always get a better deal elsewhere. Why do they do it ? Who knows, it certainly doesn't engender customer loyalty. Maybe someone in one of these industries could enlighten us.

Well the AA will want £81 off me for the same cover, and I don't have any problems with the RAC greasy end it's the corperate side that are the numpties
Oh and the AA are offering a £10 amazon voucher who are currently in my bad books anyway

Virgins highest cover which includes european cover is £99 and they were doing (and may still be doing) 2for1 so you can get your partners car covered too.

They do ask for a £70 excess on +10yr old car cover in europe though.
If your not gonna take an old car to Europe then this is the best deal I found.

Never seen a Vigin breakdown truck but can't find any details of breakdown cover on their website either

This happens to me every year! So far it's been the AA, Direct Line (Green Flag) and currently with RAC. No doubt raceboy's experience will repeat itself with me at renewal time. I'll wait 48hrs and go with the cheapest again - probably the AA!!!

When I was with Green flag I never got picked up by a green flag truck.

They dont use their own truck, they call the nearest recovery service to you at the time.

I have a Virgin mobile and the number was already in a special Xtras menu. I could tell you the number but it will only work from a virgin network.
Its called "RAC Red".

(ah, maybe they use the RAC then!)

Well just told them where they can stick their renewal, and asked how soon after closing the account I can be come a new member again, and they will not let you back for 120 days
But as I've not told them I've moved house I don't think thats going to be a problem
Or as I was going to upgrade to a joint account anyway I could just put it in racegirls name

You don't need to be in that industry to work it out, it is quite simple. You quote a new customer a low price to get them into the fold. After that you keep turning the heat up and if you get it right they never leave, when you have overdone it and people start to leave you turn it down a little. Most people are either too busy or more commonly too lazy to shop around. Perfect example is interest rates for savings, ING advertised 4.3%, everyone moves their money there, now it's 4.1%. If people stay with them they will drop it again.

Bloody RAC are bloody useless anybloodyway.

On the way to the rolling road my car conked out. Told the numpty on the phone I was going to Watton near Norwich. I hear 'tappety-tap-tap' and Norman No-Stars says "I have three Wattons. One in Dorset, one in Yorkshire an one in Norfolk. Which one is it?".

Take a guess you fekking genius.

I also made it quite clear that I needed a low loader (limited clearance) and NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES EVER, EVER, EVER, A TRAILER. "Righto" says Norman.

Twenty minutes later I received a call from the patrolman who was on his way with.....................you guessed it.

I used to get mine free with insurance too, that is all about to change - it has with Sunninghill! Just another way of putting the premiums up more without it being so obvious.
