Time to renew the annual breakdown cover and I get the feeling the AA is not necessarily the best option - nothing wrong with them but seem to be plenty of alternatives out there.

I am aware that the market is competitive - anyone recommend one you've used and are pleased with?

I go with RAC using Tesco clubcard vouchers & have 2 cars covered for Roadside & onward travel & Recovery... total clubcard voucher cost was £35... normal price would have been £120+.

We always use the clubcard deals, Have had to call them out on 2 times previously and there was no problem they were quick and resolved the issue. Cannot fault that.

Unless you break down abroad, in which case, I wouldn't recommend them.

I think on my policy if I wanted European cover it would be a little more. But have only once been overseas in my car.

I wouldn't touch the RAC in my view - I used them to recover me once and teh recommended a local garage who were massive con artists and I had to have an almighty row with the RAC to get a secondary tow away from that place. Very much tarnished my opinion of them.

I've had the AA for teh past 2 years and used them twice, found them to be very good both times

I would recommend them for europe as well.

We had the mis-fortune to breakdown in France two years ago, the RAC policy that was provided by my car insurance company (Touchline) was great. The car could not be repaired before we were due to travel home so they arranged to get the car (and us) taken to the port, and collected from the ferry in the UK and taken home. Brittany Ferries loaded the car on with no clutch!! , with an attitude of: "no clutch?, Ok we do this about ten times a week!"

Yep, I pay six quid a month for 'personal' cover which covers ME for any car I'm in. So far I've only had to use them once, when the electrics failed on my vette. The mechanic was very knowledgable and had every gadget conceivable onboard his van and helped rig something up so I could get the car home, aswell as diagnosing the fault correctly. I feel very confident with their service.

The AA left my sister in law in the mire and refused to come out to help her because her car had 'left the road'. Basically in winter hit a patch of ice, along with about 4 other cars, left the road and car wouldnt start. AA would not come out even though it was night and she was by herself.

I am fairly sure RAC cover these types of things, a patrol once told me he had to save a car when it crashed into a car wash or something like that.

Ive never had a problem with AA. It can be pretty remote around here and if the AA don't turn up someone local with a rescur truck will come along and take you home

AA cover is personal and not tied to a car either. I get full AA coverage free with my Lloyds TSB Bank Account.

AA or RAC. You can play them off against each other to get the lowest price.

They do, thats why we've all switched to RAC. The AAs excuse when we complained was that they cant offer every service for that price. Strange that other companies can.

Britannia Rescue or another company that uses local agents. Haven't had any experience with the AA/RAC but believe they are also very good.

My last call out to the AA shocking , the operator sounded about 12 and the service I received was shocking . He couldnt even tell the Highway Agency staff where I was after telling him the marker number several times.

On the last call I made to them after ringing them up , he said "can you call the police and let them know where you are "

Joke.

It expires in Jan.

And the RAC will be getting my custom from that date.
