Do you still get paid for scraping your car or am i right in saying that "some" scrap dealers now charge us for the privilege of taking it of our hands?

My brother is a mechanic, and regularly scraps vehicles.
He is now getting paid for them again, but for a while, he had to charge his customers to cover the cost.
Simple thing, would be to phone your local scrapyard.

50-100 and the rest!

Scrap is about 200 a ton at the moment, I get over £50 from our local gypsy to take it away!

I think it can be as much as two hundred quid now. There was a programme on the TV a couple of weeks ago, where a scrap-dealer at an auction was buying up old vehicles for a 100/120 quid, and just for their scrap value.

I wonder how long the dead Alfa 156 Sportwagon on the side of the A1 near St Neots will last weeping

I got £275 for my old van and he had to put a fivers worth of diesel in it to get it back to the yard. biggrin

Not a hope of repairing it and selling on, let alone passing another MOT - which is what a lot of Pikey scrappers are looking for.

Make sure you get the V5 filled in properly 'tho, just in case he's off to do a bank job in it.

Notice you no longer see abandoned cars?
In the local rag, the local scrappy was offering £150 for scrap cars running or not.

Yes it has. Nearly half of what it was a few months ago.

Don't forget they will charge you for the tyres if you leave them on.
