Can still remember when this used to be on grandstand? on a sat afternoon, wouldn't be great if they got it going on tv again. Loads better than F1, btcc etc.

I remember it fondly. Great stuff, very viewable, very exciting, much better than watching a procession of cars such as in most modern races

Superb video.. Thamks for that! I never managed to go and see a race live, but we used to have the new brighton stages around the promenade, and we used to have al sorts of group B stuff coming down to hoon around. Metro 6R4 were definitely my favourite. Stunning little cars!

Not rallycross, but you get the idea. used to live around the corner, and watch them every year!

My dad bought a 205 gti on the back of us watching Matti Alamaki(sp?) in those monstorous 205T16s - somehow the roadgoing one wasn't the same. smile
Was great entertainment though - would have loved to have gone and seen them in the flesh - the modern equivilent doesn't seem quite as exciting really. Still good, but not as raw as it used to be.

I go to Lydden on the Easter Monday and August bank holiday, and it's EXCELLENT watching

Friend's got a video of the '86 Finals with an E30 M3 with an Xtrac 4WD system and the turbo gear from a Williams F1 engine slapped on the S14 2.5 evo engine! yikesyikesyikesyikesyikes

It would smoke all 4 tyres in EVERY gear!

Great vids, but a bit later than the stuff I used to watch. It was always Lydden hill and mainly minis, 911s, BDA escorts, SAABs plus the occasional Lancia/Alpha or other euro stuff.

Hey and what about the teleprinter thing with the camera just waiting for it to start clacking away as the football results came in.

I also mainly remember the early stuff from the late 60's with the minis, escorts etc. and the special four wheel drive capris driven by Roger Clark.

God those were the days. Infinitely more watchable than just about any other form of motorsport you'd care to mention. For sheer unbridled lunacy and developmental madness the cars were hard to beat. smile

I went to rallycross meetings at Brands and Lyden quite a few times, and to local meetings in Somerset. A pity it's disappeared off TV screens as some of the cars were pretty wild and the racing fast and furious - that was in the days when Pat Doran was a new-comer.

Way, way back in the days of B/W small-screen TV I remember Saturday afternoon viewing included trials, at least I think it was trials, may have been autotests of some sort - I have a clear memory of Austin Champs with snorkels driving through water.

It must have been in the late 50s and wasn't a one-off. Anyone else go back that far?
