I think the Triumph 2.5 PI should be in there, although plagued with injector problems it really was a fantastic car equalling the best Germany had to offer.

Well I think the early 70 mech fuel injected Porches might have pushed the Hillman and the Vauxhall out of that list.
Lotus Super seven
C3 Corvette as long as it didn't have the three speed auto.
Lotus Cortina
Mini was quite popularsmile 970s and 1275s

Depends on the defnition of the best, but you also have to include the Lancia Stratos, Renault Alpine and Ferrari 308.

In fact you could probably rename your list the 10 worst cars of the 70's smile (A Marina FFS!)

Marina great? Not sure about that one. But i did like to drive them, pleasant steering and decent shift when in good order.

Capri obviously yep. Cortina mk3 two doors. The Escorts, Minis, SD1 Rovers, Granadas and Consuls, Avengers, Vivas.

I have a real soft spot for the 'common' 70s cars.

Me too but I don't miss tuning twin carbs and setting points and dwell angles.

I matched six stacks a couple of years ago took me two days and half a head of hair.

What do you have? or are you a mech?

Corvette, Trans Am but only 70 or 71, before the restrictions.
I think the Super Bee was a 68/69 model which may have continued to 70.
Did the 911 turbo arrive in the 70s?
If you are going to put the Facon XB Coupe in, then you will have to put the superior Valiant Charger in as well, specially in 6 pack or 340 form.
Daytona is a 60s car, as is the E Type.

But I do prefer your selections over most of the middle of the road pommie crap, some of which infested Oz as well.

Um, most of the OP's list sounds like a good reason why the 70s have been largely derided... wink

My list would be something like

Porsche 911 Carrera RS
Saab 99 Turbo
BMW 323i (E21)
VW Golf GTI (Mk 1)
Fiat X1/9
Ferrari 512BB
Ford Escort RS 2000 (Mk 1/2)
Lancia Fulvia HF Coupé
Lamborghini Espada
Aston Martin V8 Vantage
Jaguar XJ6

edit: or substitute Range Rover for the latter depending on whether you live out in the sticks wink )

Porsche 911 RS 2.7
Aston Martin V8
VW Golf GTi Mk.1
Rolls Silver Shadow II
Maserati Khamsin
Maserati Bora
Lamborghini Countach
Fiat X1/9 - I even owned one
Jaguar XJS - though I would still have rather bought an E-type
Hillman Avenger Tiger - its just so mental

All true greats without getting involved in any of the tacky stuff the OP mentioned - maybe his list was intended to be ironic - but if you look at that, you see that the 70's stands up pretty well. It was the eighties when the real duffers were produced.

Can I also say, the Daytona, the XJ6 and the E-Type were 60's cars. Even the 911 RS is maybe a little dodgy under that classification.

Some cool cars in there, but why are they all British apart from the 127 and Golf?

You include the Cavalier, but not the Countach rofl

Good list, but I'm going to substitute the XJS for XJ6, Countach for Espada, Gamma for the forgotten Fulvia and definitely add in the Rangey. 70's Merc SL's should be on the list too. Pace with bombproof reliability in a decade where that represented an unusual combination.

Maserati Bora? Alfasud? BMW e12 5-series? Citroen SM? Ferrari BB? Range Rover? The Shut-it-you-slaaaaaggggg Ford Granada?

These should all be in any list of class 70's cars (mainly because i would love to play at being Jack Regan from the Sweeney!)

'Get your trousers on, your nicked, you slaaaaagggggg!'
