Wheel balancing weight removal

Does anyone know what removes that black sticky adhesive that remains after a wheel balancing weight is removed from the back of a wheel?

I tried using a Meguiars clay bar and it didnt even start to remove it - tried to scrape it off but just ended up spreading it over an even bigger area.....

I think you will habe to try some sort of solvent to get it off - even try a dash of petrol quickly and then polish it off if you have nothing else.
