Someone in Germany is driving an automobile built for UK roads and has installed a Muppet in the passenger seat. The speed cameras in Germany are made to take photos of drivers who sit in the left side of the vehicle, so drivers of UK-style cars driver can't be easily identified.

A German police source said: “The number plate is not enough. We need clear evidence of who is driving the vehicle too.

“But because this is a British vehicle we can never get a decent picture. The driver has obviously worked this out because he has placed a large puppet in the passenger seat.

“This may be an example of the famous British sense of humour but it is still dangerous driving. The driver has been caught on camera on several occasions and the puppet is on the passenger seat every time. We suspect he positions the toy deliberately before accelerating past the camera.”

I was slightly concerned having seen the thread title, as i've just come back from the 'ring and was certainly "making progress" at times, but it's OK; i had Elmo riding shotgun.

if they needed to swirl his face out, doesn't that mean they got a shot of his face?

Any country who's auto manufacturers feel the need to secure car wheels with bolts rather than studs and nuts are probably too gay to actually worry about catching the Elmo bandit anyway, I'm sure they enjoy watching the CCTV and polisihig the office chair leather with thier a$$es though...smile

well, that is a new one - a nationalistic insult based on their choice of wheel fixings! laugh

so in future, we shall still refer to the French as the "frogs" but the Germans are now the "Veel Bolters, ja?"

That's a very good point, I grew up with German cars, and thought wheel bolts were a common solution until I came across studs and nuts.
I wonder what the benefit of using bolts is- lower unsprung mass? Cost?

Not sure that a bolt mass is any different to a stud and nut. Very bizzare thing to note too.

NB You'll need to add the Italians to that list as the two FIATs I've had used bolt instead of studs too.

not trying to piss on anyone's chips - but is this actually real?

I can't see why they wouldn't be able to see the driver from that photo - if his face hadn't been whirled out, I would have thought it would be clear enough to see.

The story isn't off a news site....it's called "boing boing" FFS - you follow the links and get to another site which quotes the Daily Star and says it is an Audi TT (I didn't know they did a TT Avant ?!

see, if it was a german car, after a few 'unidentified driver' speeding tickets, they can force the owner of the vehicle to maintain a record of exactly who is driving at which times, until that point, if they can't ID him, he's innocent

a driver can easily be made unidentifiable by wearing sunglasses/having the sunvisor down/having a beard that was later shaved off/having a sat nav blocking his face from the camera angle - that's enough for a good lawyer to get you off, i mean, question who was the offender

edit: it is real btw

What? Like Lotus do on the Elise? Does this make the British Police gay?
