Bikers & frosty roads - have some common sense you morons

(I'm posting this in response to all the anti-biker threads of late)
Riding in this morning, taking it very carefully as the roads were visibly frost covered and very slippy. My average speed was a sedate 25-35 mph, but slower on the corners for obvious reasons. The road in question was a smallish B road with plenty of long straight passing opportunities.
I was keeping over (but not riding in the ditch) and giving the people in cars plenty of opportunity to go passed should they wish...some went passed, other realised it was frosty and kept back driving sensibly - to be honest it wasn't that busy - I was only passed by 4 or 5 cars. No real problems with me going slow (?), no tailbacks caused by me etc etc.

Anyway, I was riding along enjoying the beautiful frost/snow covered Oxfordshire landscape...and along comes Mr Silver Passat driver. He must have been no more than a couple of foot off my back mudguard - I just thought and carried on at a safe 30mph. I've been biking enough years not to get too upset my morons in cars.
The next thing I know, he's over taking me and cutting in sharply giving me the wker sign and blowing his horn...wtf? I'm on a BIKE, it's frosty and I'm taking it easy...what's problem?

This annoyed me - a lot.
As I was slowly making progress watching him disappear into the distance I was plotting my sweet revenge.
I knew he was either going to end up in a ditch (shall I keep going passed whilst laughing? Stop, get off the bike and laugh? piss on his wheel...decisions decisions?) or I would eventually catch up with him in the inevitable traffic jam just a few miles down the road?.
He didn't crash unfortunately, but I did catch up with him
Needless to say I gave him a massive torrent of high testosterone fueled abuse, he nearly wet himself and kept apologising all red faced like a little 4 year old. Tosser.

So the moral of the story is - don't dish out abuse from the safety of your car to bikers (or anyone else for that matter) if you can't take it back. The person on the recieving end might just catch up with you eventually, and give you what for!!

You clearly should have been going faster and not clogging up the roads.

You didn't need to give him the abuse back. The knowledge that his life's ambition is probably to be able to aspire to ownership of a 320d copany car should be enough.

The problem with the OP's actions is you dont know what the reaction of Mr Silver Passat will be. He could be a complete loon and calmly blow you away with a sawn-off shotgun or chop you up with Machette or simply driver over you. All unlikley I know but simmilar things have happend.

Had this happen to me, this morning also.
30mph limit, doing around that maybe a bit less because of cold tyres, and the obvious road conditions, numpty in a transit virtually touching my back wheel.
Pulled over and let him past. He was more likely to win at bumper cars than I.

It was nice to see him sitting there a quivering wreck though...don't dish it out if you can't take it and all that. I rarely get annoyed and usually let it go, but when it's directed at me for no reason...well, I certainly don't suffer fools gladly

Can you point me in the direction of the many times in which people have been blown away by a sawn off shotgun for such actions.

I hope it will stop the driver from being a tool on the road next time, but unlikely.

Definitely agree with that. A gentle pat on the bonnet or tap of the wing mirror (with your finger, I am not suggesting causing any damage) shows these fools who is in control without any aggression.

I had to ride my scooter 15miles across frosty country roads last night, and most drivers were courteous tbh, some even seemed quite happy to follow along behind my sedate 35mph bimble. I did see a Golf buried in a hedge on one stretch, its owner seemed quite bemused that a two wheeler had managed to negotiate the same set of bends without following suit however.

Drivers do seem to forget how slippy untreated roads can get, its all to easy to feel safe in your warm box after all, I know cos I've done it myself.

In control? Sounds more like an act of aggression to offset the fact that is in fact you that is more vulnerable.

The whizzing past/cutting in thing - sound at all like typical biker behaviour on a motorway?? Works both ways.

The passat idiot clearly needed to be talked to, though, to explain the OP's (and any decent rider's) reasons for going slow. Otherwise, a pat on the bonnet might just make him think the rider is being inflammatory, and the driver's behaviour won't change.

A bit of shock treatment can be good for getting your point across (though it's not always necessary or advisable).

Yeah, I'm not going to bother with this one I think. I can put up with the jealous remarks from those commiting themselves to hours wasted in traffic each week.

What's the point of a tap on the bonnet? You're not educating the driver as to what he did wrong, it's purely there to intimidate. No point, in my book.

If you can't have a conversation then what's the point in doing anything? Why do you need to do anything anyway?? A gesture at the point where he cut back in front of you would have been most appropriate, rather than waiting for some later retaliation.
