Can we please stop calling it that!

You sound like a 17 year old girl that's just passed her test!

The motorway has 1 driving lane and two overtaking lanes, no "fast" lanes!

To be fair, the inside lane tends to be the fast lane these days.

I am getting so fed up with terrible lane etiquette on motorways, it's dangerous if nothing else.

I find that anyone who doesn't use the terms L1, L2 & L3 generally has no fking idea about lane discipline.

There's a Lane 4 in your neck of the woods now, old boy...

You might not have noticed because the Middle Lane Cruisers all use Lane 3 now...smile

On the 4 lane stretch of the M1 going from Luton to the M25 people treat it like an American Freeway, where you can drive in any lane at any speed.

I completely agree with the post that the inside lane is sometime the fastest, I travelled between 2 junctions of the M25 only using the inside lane and whilst the middle and outside lanes were conjested, travelling circa 50mph, I did 70 the whole way. (does this count as undertaking, I saw it as the other two lanes were slowed due to traffic so I was free to pass on the left due to my lane being clear).

Poor lane discipline really annoys me, its not rocket science!

What I don't get is, when in traffic, one lane starts to 'move' and everyone heads for like it is the last we on the street. Then the other moves, then the other. Lunacy at it's best.

There is no 'fast lane', just the lane that you chose to continue on your journey at a constant pace.

Lucky I never venture so far down south, sounds a nightmare. It's bad enough with the MLM's!

Hope it wasn't the average speed camera section, hence the reason why they were all doing 50.

M25 anticlockwise J13 to J10 is often like this also. Outside lanes full, inside lanes empty. Strange that motorway drivers seem to lose their peripheral vision and seem incapable of understanding that the inside lanes are empty.

From the Highway Code...

264
You should always drive in the left-hand lane when the road ahead is clear. If you are overtaking a number of slower-moving vehicles, you should return to the left-hand lane as soon as you are safely past...

268
Do not overtake on the left or move to a lane on your left to overtake...

God - Have you taken your test yet?

That's scary that you don't even KNOW you're supposed to overtake on the right...

That's the highway "code", not the law.

Because, it's this idea of slow, middle, fast which leads to, "I'm traveling at a normal speed, so I use this lane." rather than practice good lane discipline.

The thinking is, it's this mentality that contributes toward Motorway driving standards.

M25 near Heathrow is the same. Me and the GF call it wacky races when we join smile
