Corvette ZR-1 'Ring Time
ZR-1 'Ring warrior posts new personal best
While Nissan has been getting all the headlines for putting one over the Porsche 911 with its new GT-R, the Corvette ZR-1 has quietly gone and posted a 7:22.4 - a whopping four seconds quicker than the Z's previous best, and way out in front of Nissan's 7:29.
Corvette Racing works driver and old Nürburgring hand Jan Magnussen is taking the credit for the ZR-1's hottest lap yet of the 12.93-mile loop. The time is just 3 tenths off that set by the Dodge Viper ACR but, as ever, true comparisons remain almost impossible with so many variables affecting circuit conditions.

God they have so obviously cheated using non standard tyres and power outputs
Sorry Marf. I hate to disappoint you, but I am quite well acquainted with GM's practices. (I worked at the proving grounds until recently). The runs are made with standard production equipment and tyres. In case you think I am a biased American, I am English, and have worked for Lotus, Porsche and March.

whooooosh!
Your head ---->
Didn't someone dyno one of these a while back and found it to have only 505bhp?!
It's listed as having a whopping 648bhp. That's like losing a VW Golf somewhere along the line!
Still very impressive, though you have to ask why the yanks are now comparing this to the Enzo which posted a similar time. Yes, because a Supercharged Corvette is WAY cooler than an ultra-rare super car exotic.
D'oh.

The ZR1 does 'only' make 505hp AT THE WHEELS, which is the same as a Z06 makes at the crank. It's listed as having a whopping 648bhp. That's like losing a VW Golf somewhere along the line!

Video here of ZR1 vs GT-R with the dyno test (of both ZR1 and GT-R) and other antics, seems you can do some nice burnouts in the ZR1 without blowing up the gearbox as well

You can say what you want about American cars, but the Corvette is a brutally quick car.
To be fair to the GTR, it was never really meant to compete directly against the ZR1. It does after all cost more than 30,000 less. The upcoming V-Spec however, might just give the Corvette a run for it's money.........

Well done Captain Corny. That joke was old & tired a year ago. Maybe you were still at nursery school when the memo was dished out.335d remapped.

Back on topic.. I was never a corvette fan. But they sure do get the job done on The 'Ring! Very impressive..
Back off topic, I think Top Gear should find out themselves if the GT-R or 911 is best on the ring. What an episode that would be..
Damn, I've never driven on this track. I fear it may be time for the poor relation.. I'll have to dust off my old PS2 and Gran Turismo 3 (Or was it 4?)
