Typical, had my X5 for a week, and someone just drove into it.

I was driving along a road with the "stick on" speed bumps, noticed a car ahead of me, approx 20m.

She was diving between the speed bumps, or so I thought.

I pulled up approx 15m before the bumps, as she was taking the centre line, no big deal I thought, people often do it. I come to a stop to let her complete her manoeuvre.

She goes over the bumps, still taking a middle line down the road.

Then......

I realise she may be in the drivers seat, but she's not driving. She's heading straight to my stationary car, 10m and closing. I'm thinking WTF!!

I blast the horn, as I have noware to go, as there are cars behind me, and a lamppost to my left.

Now she is 3m, 2m, 1m, i'm think, sh!t she's going to hit me, I looking straight at her, and she has a seriously glazed over look.

BANG - she's drove into the front of my car. There was no movement or actions from her side. Her car stalls shortly after impact.

I jump out the car, and run over to her window, to see whats going on with her. She is totally dispondant, looking like she is having some type of seizure!

Called 999, as I though she made need some medical attention.

Anyways, Police arrive, take statements, and she's off to hospital. So now the serious questions....

I told my insurance Company what happened, and they want it to go to a Ford place for repairs?

I thinking that I may be better off getting it sent to a BMW place, can I ask them to do that?

Cheers

Nat

I think you're allowed to get your car fixed wherever you want.

can't you use those third party people, where they take your car, give you a hire vehicle, and then do everything else for you. All the repairs are done at the vehicle manufacturer.

If not...say to them NO, you will get it done at BMW, NOWHERE else.

Several of the VX220 guys have used Europa and were very pleased with the whole process. They will (should) give you a like for like car - one guy got a Cayman for a couple of months (no sniggering at the back please - we all know that VX's are far better than Porkers biggrin)

Sorry to hear about the prang BTW - hope the lady involved is OK too.

Check your policy documents - if it states that you must use one of their approved repairers what they will probably allow you to do is to take it there, get the job priced up and that will be the maximum the insurance company will pay and then let you take it to the BMW garage.

So, if the BMW garage is £1000 more than the Ford garage then you will be liable for it (or just get it done at the Ford garage).

I suspect BMW warranty will not cover non-approved repairs. Losing the warranty is a bad thing, which your insurer should not force on you. Ask you insurer explicitly if it will effect any warranty - including rust etc. Then ask BMW....

You're right but it depends on the insurance company. Some don't always listen to reason!

Get it taken to BMW Bodyshop and tell your Ins Co that's where you want it fixed.

If their quote is within an acceptable price/margin then you'll be okay. Insurance may send assessor out to bodyshop if the repair is > certain value... just to make sure they're not getting scammed.

i had this with my car they wanted to send it to their approved repairer, went there and didnt like the look of it, very crowded not much care seemed to be taken, rang insurers they told me to get a quote from somewhere i was happy with, get them to send the quote to them and that they would send an assesor before work could be carried out. took a little longer than using their route but i was happier getting it done with someone affiliated to the dealer and they had no problems with this. Hope any of this inane rambling helps!

To bloody right it did, scared the crap out of me having a car being driven straight at you - at 4 mph! smile

Only had the car a week, and don't really want to be out of pocket.

Do NOT take it to their 'approved repairer', their main aim is to save the insurance company money. You are not obliged to do this.

Take it to BMW and make sure they go over the car with a fine tooth comb for damage.

I wonder if the Police will tell me what happened to the lday, and what the seziure was all about.

I feel sorry for her, as I guess she doesn't remember much.

And thinking about the accident last night, lucky her car came to a stop against my X5, rather than a house, or person walking by at the time. I think it could of been a lot worse.

I'll bet good money though that it's not the 1st time shes "felt unwell". But still thought she was OK to drive.

I could be very wrong. But I suspect not.
