It made me laugh... (Quote from Times Article)

However, many people are making the switch because they imagine that having a small motorcycle will be cheap. It isn’t. Sure, the 125cc Vespa I tried can be bought for £3,499, but then you will need a helmet (£300), a jacket (£500), some Freddie Mercury trousers (£100), shoes (£130), a pair of Kevlar gloves (£90), a coffin (£1,000), a headstone (£750), a cremation (£380) and flowers in the church (£200)

That is until you realise that those that need it the most are usualy the ones who buy the £30 skid lid and wear ski gloves to match their ski jacket, jeans and trainers.

Who'd spend £3500 on a 125?

2nd hand 125 - £500-1000
Helmet - £100-150
Jacket - £100
Pants - £150
Gloves - £30-50
Boots - £100
Waterproofs - £20

And then factor in that they probably return over 100mpg...

I'll re-quote you.

2nd hand Vespa: £1500
Helmet (A Class): £150
Gortex/Kevlar Jacket with padding: £120
Leather gloves: £30
Gortex trousers: £50
Boots: £90

Total: £1940

All in all your total (excluding the silly bits), came to: £4619 which is £2679 more than mine.

I've no idea where you are shopping but unless you want to look like a tit wearing a full leather alpinestars racing suit on, you don't need to spend anywhere near that much.

This just in, sweeping generalisations are for simpletons.

Clarkson's thoughts on bikes are usually funny, especially the spleen stuff. You don't have to agree with him to laugh, he is wrong half the time and he's still funny.

Clarkson is often wrong, often idiotic and often funny, but Abdulaziz is just idiotic.

For those who think buying a new Vaspa is a poor financial decision, just look at the residuals that put cars to shame.

I bought my GTV 125cc new on an 05 plate for £2600. Sold it 3 years later for just over £1600 on eBay. 3 year warranty and servicing for peanuts. 80mpg or thereabouts.

By comparison I bought my Alfa GTV 3.0 for £3000 and sold it 18 months later for £1600!
