I had a go in one yesterday, and liked it.

When I first saw in on an episode of Top Gear a while back I didn't like it. The more I see it now, however, the more it grows on me.

I think they look lovely, doubt I'll ever get to drive one though.

From the back and the rear three quarter view it looks amazing, but that face at the front is a bit odd looking...

Probably a miss, don't see a massive number of 500s about and a lot of people will probably be put off by Alfa's reputation.

Still, it's supposed to have some decent technology in there, and apparently will have a "multi-air" engine (pneumatic valve opening system) which will mean very effective fuel use/power development.

Would have been nicer with the brera front end, I only get the feeling that they're over using the 8C with the MiTo front

When you go and see it in the metal it's a hit.

If the front was a little more aggressive, I'd love one.
As is, I think it's designed to appeal to a wider variety of people and in my eyes, looks a little 'girly'.
Something like the Brera's front end (although not identical as the different shape would make it look stupid! hehe) would make it near as dammit perfect.
Shame! frown

Needs the lights from the Brera/Spider front and back.

Those headlights look daft.

Alfa have a gorgeous look going on at the moment with the slanted headlights and tail lights, a minature version of those would have looked brilliant, but oh no. Stupid designers! smile

Agreed, the 8c front end look just doesn't work on this scale. The big gap between the triangular grille and those lights (which are a bit too small) is too big, just doesn't look right. On the 8c the triangular grille is at the same level as the lower grille type thing, so it looks ok:

Where as on the MiTo it just looks weird in that expanse of metal

It'd be interesting to see a Brara nose photoshopped onto it.

In the meantime, 14k for a Brera..

I think it looks alright. I am surprised so many seem to like the 500, yet dislike this, when this IMO looks way better.

As for sticking a Brera front end on it, that would look truly hideous. The Brera front end is quite an aggressive front end and this just isnt an aggressive shape, so it would look like it was thoughtlessly tacked on if they did that. Such a front end is always going to need to be put on a bigger, more macho looking car.

I get the impression people dislike it because in their eyes it "cheapens" the 8C, but I just dont see it myself.

It's alright, as modern bloated euro-boxes go.

I love it, had one as a hire car in Italy and it was pretty decent to drive too.

In red with the 8C style wheels it looks fantastic in the metal, even in Italy they are pretty new and we got constant waves and attention everywhere we went.

I like it but when I commented on the gorgeous red of the show car at the Motorshow I was told it was special paint and would cost about 10 grand if you wanted it. I don't know what it is like to drive, may take one out but would only be interested in 1.4 150 turbo or 1.6 Turbodiesel. Anyone driven it? The press reaction I have seen has been mixed.

In regard to the 500, I don't like it: too kitsch. I prefer the simple honesty of the Panda: proper small car in the best Italian tradition. I don't know whether owners are still waiting for 500s but I thought people where going mad for them but see relatively few on the road.

Are you blind?

It makes a nice change from the blandness of the Golf or the mish mash of "interesting" angles and curves that just about everyone else uses.

We've had a decade or more of either bland or interesting-angles-and-curves styling. Abouth the only thing I can think of that bucked the trend in the mass market was the Rover 75 (which I liked for that reason but others hated for that reason).

Time for more curves.

Shame it isn't RWD. If BMW can make an RWD entry level car then why not Alfa?
