any reason as to why you prefer a 912 as to a 911?

I think you need to define what is wrong with the cars you have selected.

For starters there are two distinct Clio V6s the mk1 and 2. The Second was supposed to be well sorted, reasonably quick and incredibly engaging to drive.

The E36 M3. Did you know that there are a few different types? The original 3.0, the Evo and I think there was a GT variant, so which was no good and why?

All Alpinas are rubbish? That's a joke surely? Have you driven an E34 B10 Bi Turbo? Or an E28 B9?

Interesting idea for a thread but it needs some justifications.

Agree, I have heard some amazing write ups of CSL m3's for instance.

Actually I was thinking that myself earlier.. I know someone who owned a 912 and I was always fond of it, but didn't realise that the 911 is basically a 912 with six cylinders instead of four.

So to answer your original question, it should probably be the other way round.

Either way I really like old 911's.. although I wouldn't mind that 993 of yours! smile

Pretty much all of those cars received massive praise when they came out. I would never trust a Peugeot though after what me and at least 4 other people I know have experienced.

To be fair, I had one as a loan car last week. It wasn't bad as such, it just wasnt as good as the old one IMO.

I'd disagree about the 996... possibly not the "best 911 ever" but a fine drive nonetheless, and I've only driven carrera 2's on track (one was a tip cabrio ffs, and I still enjoyed it)

The styling on the 996 is not liked by purist 911 fans and it was the first 911 to go water cooled so again the purists dont like it.

however as a car it had the most sorted chassis of any porsche before it
Even Jeremy Clarkson (who hates 911s) said the turbo was a superb car with a properly sorted chassis.

so actually it was as good (if not better) than it was supposed to be, it sold in huge numbers compared to previous models and could be considered something of a success.

The 997 is supposed to be even better..
Yes the styling is sorted and I am told it is more comfortable than a 996.

but some of the issues the 996 did suffer with have not been fixed in the 997, is it better car? the jury is still out on that one.
