Spoiled my Chrimbo

After months of saving, searching, negotiating etc I finally got my Merc E320 last month. Delighted with it and the chance to do the trips down south to deliver the Chrimbo pressies last weekend, I gave it a clean and spent the trip grinning like a cheshire cat.
On Saturday whilst at Mrs BandB's friends she called me outside to point out a large and penetrating scratch to the RNS wing caused when a visitor had not held her drive gate when going out to get something from her car, resulting in the gate swinging open in a gust of wind and the metal bolt from the gate hitting my car. Scratched to the metal in a 'V' shape about 3 inches long. I just stood there, dumbstruck.
Now all I can see when I go to the car is that fecking scratch. Taken all the pleasure out of it for me.
She is offering to pay my excess for the repair but when she showed it me I wasn't sure whether to laugh, cry or shout at her.

In all fairness, as much as that is annoying and disappointing you can't let it spoil Christmas for you.
I bought a brand new Civic Type R a few years back and someone kicked the panels in all around the car before it had even got a hundred miles on the clock and that really narked me but when you put it into perspective, it's just a car and in a year from now or 10 years from now it won't matter one bit.
Just one of those things and it really isn't worth staying upset over.

By offering to pay the excess on his insurance policy for the repair?!I'd be getting a quote for the respray and posting it to her.

It is just that until after the holiday I won't know if it is a minor repair or a bodyshop job, and everytime I step out of the dor all I can see is the scratch. I shall have to pour a few bottles of chrimbo cheer on the problem.
I can see it now. Repair costs more than my excess 9( NCB is protected but last time I claimed for a minor repair a few weeks later I had a larger knock and lost my NCB, so I am loathe to have my strike for someone elses financial convenience). I fall out with friend, wife falls out with friend and me.
On the other hand she wasn't reckless. She was unfamiliar with the house and the gate swung both ways (alrge wooden agriculturla type gates). It wasn't particularly windy and the gate was heavy so I don't think I would have thought it would move quite so easily and in the opposite direction to how it opened. Having said that it wasn't my fault.
