How many times do I have to tell her!!!

Girlfriend has just called up in a panic as her car is showing that it is running over temperature. Run through all the usual bits and it transpires that the coolant level is low (apparently only a little bit in the bottom of the header tank). On questioning her when it was last checked it has come to light that it was three months ago when it was serviced.... it is just me or would you not check atleast once a week at this time of year?
I have told her time and time again that she needs to do this but the next bit of information beggars belief.... She works in a Service Department for a Main Dealer and is always dealing with cars overheating and knows the score with checking your levels etc!!!!! Arrrrrgggghhhh!!!!

I did warn her not to open the header tank cap until it had cooled down abit, and advised her to open it with great caution (ie lots of pressure to the lid, unscrew very slowly etc)..
Have now advised her to top it up and take for a brief 5 min drive as it might have just been lack of coolant giving false/wierd readings.. fingers crossed!

I have never need to check coolant levels on a car that frequently, well not since I had my Allegro, which was an old car when I got it (a good few years ago now).
I would say if she has an old car or one known to have a problem then yes but a modern car doesn't usually need weekly checks. (monthly should be enough)

She has a 2000 Ford Fiesta 1.6 16v Zetec S with 80,000 Miles on it, not been the most reliable car ever and she uses it everyday.. I would say if she has an old car or one known to have a problem then yes but a modern car doesn't usually need weekly checks. (monthly should be enough)

It's quite rare to not have the overheating warnings on...
Ignorance is bliss. A Mate of mine drove round with the oil pressure light on for 2 WEEKS before telling me. I diagnosed it with a chronic case of no oil....a litre to bring it back to the min....it only hold 3.5 to the max!!
My OH is great though, watches temps like a hawk, reports back any knock, bang, pull to the side. Took me 9 years to educate her but she's really good.....it is possible guys!

) and as I said only ever needed to do weekly cks on my old Allegro. I started doing weekly checks when I got my peugeot 205 and soon realised it really wasn't necessary. I've never run out of liquids on any car, unless due to a major issue (like when the heating matrix went on my peugeot!)
