Where does all the grit go?

After the council drop 500 odd tonnes of grit all over our roads every year where does it go. Surely there should be big piles of it lining all our roads, or if it gets washed down the drains then surely our sewers would be bursting with sand.

I know the road sweepers probably pick a lot up but then i havn't seen one yet this year.

These are the things that really matter in this day and age!!

I thought it was some sort of sugar by-product to increase adhesion? Rather than sand.
That's why it smells like dog food.

It collects in my rear wheel arches and sills. All of it.

I really want us to have a week or so of torrential rain to wash it all away. Roads are disgusting at the moment, in some places round Leeds its piled up so high its like driving along a rust-inducing beach.

The melting point of salt is in the region of 800 degrees Celcius. I suspect you mean dissolve?

Not that i'm disagreeing but there must be sand/grit in it as a few of the bends round my way still have some on them and its deffo not just salt.

I know there is salt in the mixture which would dissolve but there must be a percentage that is grit.

And another thing, as we all know, our tyres wear out, ie the rubber gets scruffed off, or what ever it does, why after all these years of motoring, and zillion tyres trashed, and mountains of the bloody stuff in knackers yard, where are all the piles of rubber dust.

Shouldn't we be seeing piles along our roads of rubber?....

Well I guess it's salt straight out of the ground rather than 'table salt', so it's likely to have loads of grit/stones etc in it.

no jobs at the moment ,like everywhere else, salt is our bi-product .our main seller is potash for fertilizer.

90% of the poulation have a good root around in their nasal cavity when alone so after 1000's of years of nose picking shouldn't we be swimming in snot by now?

there are different grades of salt ,some would make the roads more slippy than if they were left iced.

salt has different colours too. orange,red,white,clear,etc.

and salt is actually called halite.

They had the same problem in Copenhagen a few years ago.. the whole city smelled of the country side (cow piss). Apparently it was the cow urea additive they had been trialling instead of salt as they found the salt was too destructive and "burned" all the road side vegetation. (thats why you see those low plywood fences erected on the verge of the roads protecting the trees from car splash.
