I thought I'd hijack the "Cars you regret buying" thread and start one that was more applicable to myself!

I'll start!

Vauxhall Cavalier 2.5 V6 CDX with manual gearbox. laugh

Cost me £700 from ebay and it was immaculate, I raced around in this for months. It may not sound special but at the age of 20 it was quite an upgrade from a 1.1 Fiesta!

Sold it to a chap who’d recently lost his job and wanted a cheap car (I shudder to think what happened to it). I went out and bought a Volvo 850 T5 estate which was the biggest mistake ever. Great barge of a thing I paid way too much for. I miss my Cavalier and I feel sick when I think of the money I needlessly wasted! weeping

All of them. I've only sold four, and if it weren't for at least one being scrapped, I'd have them all back as soon as I could afford them. For the record, that's an old Micra, two Almeras (one of them in particular is the car I miss most, despite being pink) and a Corsa.

I regret selling my TVR Chim. My MX-5 was more fun, my S2000 was better at many thing but only the TVR got under my skin. There is a bloke out there called Mike who I hope is enjoying it as much as I did.

My Corrado VR6.

At the time, I didn't really need the money (but had bought a newer car so it would have been stored). However, it's almost worth now what I sold it for 6/7 years ago and I could do with a nice comfy fast 2nd car at the mo with my back biggrin

I still retain that it was the best car I ever had. It's all relative but it's the one that did it's job the best.

Alfa 75 3.0l V6

Didn't even sell it but gave it away to a scrap-man after it had sat, dead on my patio for a few months frown

There's quite a few I really regret selling although the three that jump out in particular are:

1)Series 1 Escort RS Turbo Custom.
Bought it myself as a 21st birthday treat. It was immaculate, with one owner from new, low miles and totally standard but I decided six months later that a BMW 325i would be better.
The RS was way better an would now be worth quite a bit.

2)3dr Cosworth.
My first Cosworth that I bought when I was 24. I loved it but got fed up of people trying to steal it and/or asking stupid questions ("Is it a real 'un mate?", "Is it chipped up?") that I snapped and sold it for stupid money.
Having said that it was white and the next three I bought (a few years later) were in black and Moonstone Blue so much better anyway. smile

3)Audi UR Quattro.
I'd had it about six months and driving to work one day I was dicking about.
Doing probably about 80 down a tree lined lane, wet leaves on floor, grass banking either side and I spun it.
Bent a rim, punched a hole in the headlight and ripped door mirror off it (vey lucky!) so got rid of it to a friend in the trade. He fixed it and it killed me for the next 12 months every time I saw him driving around in it.
Was really pleased when he sold it.

I've always fancied one of these smile One of my Dad's friends bought one new and had it nicked shortly afterwards!

What was your Omega 2.5 like by the way? I keep seeing these and they seem like a good bargain barge scratchchin

Omega was fine. It was a basic one but was an honest motor, full history etc.

Drove well (RWD), comfy, rides well, cheap to run, quick-ish, great for long journeys. Did exactly what it said on the tin type car. For sure the badge Germans are "nicer" (I went to an A6 afterwards which was nice) but for the money you can't beat the ol' vauxhall. I keep re-considering getting an auto estate one as a comfy beater.....prob won't happen as I don't really "need" one but it's be nice.

Another vote for the Corrado VR6 - I went through 8V, G60, VR6 and VR6 Storm. The VR6 is a wonderful car.
Also shouldn't have sold my wife's low mileage Mk2 Golf GTI but she was struggling without power steering - subsequently found we could have had it fitted for about £600 - damn.

I still miss my Jaguar XJ Sport every day.

I sold it about 5 years ago now, and I was 26 when I had it. It was lovely - Flamenco Red, Oatmeal leather and black wood. Such a beautiful interior and just great to drive wafting along. It had a decent turn of speed too, and the ladies loved it.

I still hanker after one now as I don't think the X300 has dated at all - the line across the front of the bumper which follows the headlights looks lush, and I prefer the X300's bumpers to the X308's. They are seriously cheap now too.

I sold it as I moved to Edinburgh and didn't really need a car - and the next car I bought was the 147 GTA.

Only 2 I really regret are my Renault 19 16V years back. Had the car three years and ran it with a year old '95 Golf Gti 16v - every time I chose the Renault - the handling was sublime.

This year I sold my WRX - I couldn't justify the fuel costs @ 400 miles a week. That was the only car I'd set the alarm for at stupid o'clock to go out for a blat before the world wakes up.

My friend had a Renault 19 16V Chamade Executive in red with black leather back in the day. He also fitted 17 inch Momo Ferrari wheels to it and did some other mods to the suspension and exhaust.

A great looking car and it went really well too. You never see them about these days, which is a bit of a shame.

The same friend now works for a car company and looked up the CAP computer program to see how much the 16V would be worth now if he had it:

Excellent - £75
Good - £50
Poor - £25

It's got to be worth that!

I had a wonderful 1962 Split Screen VW Camper. It was RHD and a little untidy, but ran great and had a solid chassis. I ran out of money at University and sold her for £1,800.
Very sad about that, I could never afford or be able to justify buying another one now.
