It was his way of getting on the power as early as possible apparently. I remember Jonathan Palmer talking about it on the BBC documetary about him after he'd died. When he was test driver at McLaren he saw Senna's throttle overlay and it showed that as soon as he got to the apex he started 'stabbing' at the throttle, getting on it a damn sight earlier than anyone else, making up a couple of tenths in every corner.

It's the things that the great drivers do and think of that no-one else does, that makes them greats...

...and quite well known for doing it in his time.
I think I recall reading an interview where he said it helped him "feel" the car through the corner in more detail.

Yeah. I was looking at the rev counter thinking, why doesn't he change gear, it sitting on the limiter, then saw the speedo - Amazing talent, sadly missed

Thanks for posting that Soovy, I am not a Senna fan but that video is very good.

If I remember correctly his tapping on the throttle was his way of getting more out of a car.

Interesting driving technique there. Tapping the throttle through the corners. Doing the complete opposite of what Sir Jackie Stewart was telling James May in Top Gear, something along the lines of 'don't get on the throttle until you know you don't have to get off it again'.

Also, why does the speedo on that thing only go up to 120mph ish? It was off the clock for most of that video.

Great video though. Didn't 5th Gear have an NSX as a competition prize a few series ago - hopefully someone actually got it, unlike most phone-in competition prizes (allegedly).
