Who else crashed / had a crap day then?!

Got a call at about 11.15 this morning to let me know my wife and babyDavi had been involved in an accident. I packed up and headed over to find them being cared for by trafpol.

She'd been sitting stationary at a junction, when a car slid on the ice into the back of her. A very minor collision which although it left wife and babyDavi shaken was no worse than a bit of swapped paint. Unfortunately 5 minutes later when a third car failed to stop, ploughing into the back of the second car and pushing it into the wife's car again, was the moment the driver was standing between his and the wife's car examining the damage... Unfortunately there were no ambulances left, and the chap with what looked like serious crush injuries ended up lying on the snow for well over an hour.

babyDavi was still in the car at the time and as this was a harder shunt, off to hospital we went to get him checked up. He's been given a clean bill of health which made the 4.5 hour wait in A&E worthwhile

Just a shame that in going from the scene of the accident something terminal seems to have happened to my Audi, I have warning lights aplenty and a huge exclamation mark showing in the computer display, and a very lumpy sounding V6

All in all, an utterly st day, as I believe the many hundreds going through A&E would agree with. Have to say a big thanks to the BiB and medics that attended though!

Speaking as someone who has been working a motor claims line since 8.30 this morning, and who still has an hour left to go, I can heartily agree with you on that one.

Not to many problems for me with driving down the country lanes, my big problem was at work when i fell 7 foot off a ladder onto concrete, bruised back, badley spraind wrist, bad sholder, and a few minor cuts!

so all in all a bad day for me

Ironically the majority of those going through A&E were injuries sustained falling over on the ice because they thought it too dangerous to take the car!!! Unfortunately Southampton don't appear to undertake any gritting of pavements at all.

Which part of Soton did this happen in then? Seems to have been a fairly bad day for most of the city. Today I've watched lorries jacknifing, vans oversteering around corners into parked cars, people losing traction on steep hills and rolling back into others and sets of skidmarks in the snow which eerily go up and down pavements.

It's why I've stayed on foot today, regardless of my own abilities, I don't want to stake my car's bodywork on the abilities of people who just don't have a clue what they're doing. I'll take my chances with a good pair of boots rather than risk the bedlam that some people are causing.

This angers me, slightly. There was a time in the dim distant past where the paths would be gritted/salted along with the roads. My job means I'm in contact with the elderly a fair bit and there are about 4 of my patients that are currently nursing broken arms, shoulders and hips because of recent icy pavements.

I'm into the blame culture bks but it does make you think. If it was my mum/gran laid up with a bust hip (which can sometimes be a major event leading to someone's demise) then I would want someone to accept responsibility for it. The wrongs/rights of this are questionable though.

Was woken up this morning by a lady knocking on my door. She had lost control and hit the back of my car on the way up the kerb and into my garden destroying my little picket fence in the process.

I took the car down to the local shop with some broken trim, a scuffed bumper and a smashed rear light and did a few handbrake turns until i screwed up and hit the back end again on a raised flowerbed

Lets hope the insurance guy doesn't notice when he comes to do the appraisal..

Have seen him outside since so he was ok. Don't know who else was involved though.

My Brother (shocker-z) ran into the back of a parked van, then when he parked up and went to find the owner someone ran into the back of him. He's not that happy tonight as he also put his knee though the tv stand when he got home

Jesus christ, can nobody in this bloody country drive anymore? I'm only 19 but I've done over a hundred miles today in three different vehicles in 3-4 inches of snow and ice and I've managed to keep all three on the road without pranging anything. (admittedly one was a land rover, but still)

All you've got to do is slow down to the point you think nothing could possibly go wrong, then slow down a bit more. Avoid excessive acceleration, steering, braking and jerky movements, which you shouldn't be doing in normal weather anyway, and you'll be fine.

Feel sorry for those of you that have suffered through other people's incompetence.

Whilst I completely empathise with you and the worries of the baby (I've a 7 month daughter myself), the bit where the other chap was crushed between the cars sounds absolutely horrific.
