The petition against average speed cameras.
I know it is hopeless and would only work if we lived in a democracy. It is worth a try eh? At least we can read the pathetic reasons he gives for ignoring democracy.

The problem with indirect democracy is that we do not get to decide on every issue, we just decide who represents us and they make the decisions. Direct democracy (like in Switzerland I believe) involves a referendum on pretty much any issue raised in parliament.
Also, like it or not, your petition will probably be signed by a few hundred, maybe a few thousand people, not exactly a 'majority' view in a country of 60 million people. Silent consent rules.
As much as I am against the incresing numbers of scammera types/sites in the UK, another online petition is not the way to go.
Viva la revolucion!

Tell me this. I heard that as a result of local councils no longer getting the benefit of the fines that their speeding cameras (i.e. they now go to central govt and not local govt) that Swindon County Council has done away with speed cameras because they are just a drain on their resources.
Is this true and, if so, why haven't more councils followed suit ?
