Watching a bit of TV last night and just after 5th Gear ( yes I admit to watching it) there was the new "kill your speed" ad in which a driver is "haunted" by the figure of a small kid of which they had killed.
I thought the ad of the small girl gainst the tree was on the verge of bad taste, but this one is nasty.
Missus hadnt seen it until then and was watching it alone upstairs - she said it was upsetting and offencive. Our 2 year old is spotting children on tv or in the street and shouts "baby baby", if we are watching a recording and he sees that Im sure its enough to give him nightmares!
Do these ads just get through because theyre after the watershed? Plus do they really think speeding motorists will slow down - though theye probably not watching the TV!

While Im waffling, anyone seen the advert on "how to spot a stroke"? Womans head bursting into flames, face muscles distorted. Again quite graphic and ott, the flames are especially bad!
Missus has said she's going to be one of those "complainers" and send an email about them.
Oddly enough both of them are by the government!

I think they should bring an advert out for poor spelling.

Are you surprised? It's got this government written all over it.
Thou shalt do this thou shalt not do that.
You cannot even express an opinion on the BBC anymore. This basically happened after Dr Kelly's death.

Mind you, I found the Benneton adverts pretty bad in the nineties.

The worst adverts for me are still of the Ocean Finance ilk. Symptomatic of the crap that is tolerated in today's media.

Good or poor spelling does not lessen an argument. Simply commenting on it means you have nothing else to offer, think of the kilobytes

I doubt they'd use one with an 85 year old granny with cataracts and a dodgy hip. Although one of a woman on the school run would help highlight that everyone needs to pay attention all the time.

Couldn't give a st about ads like this.

Get the kids off the road and they won't get run over.

The stroke one I saw tonight with a guy featured. Seemed like something from the '70's or '80's.
Very crapply done and not very effective as I've already forgotten what I should do if I see a stroke.

I assume the spelling is actually more for the use of a C instead of an S in the word Offensive, however the poor spelling does not detract from your point. Many a witty advert or clever advert has been banned over the years due to some crazy complainers with nothing better to do however, having just seen the stroke advert on television at around 5pm, I agree its pretty gruesome to be shown at that time. I do however believe it to be a good advert to alert the general public but it should only be shown after the watershed, afterall a young child is not going to phone an ambulance for a stroke victim!

I used to hate the advert on the radio with the noises of bones cracking although they are pretty effective. These, IIRC, were for wearing seatbelts though and not speeding.

You could try complaining - sometimes they change adverts if enough people object. I seem to remember they revised that TV licensing ad with the threatening big brother overtones.

The problem is that new media will now be full of the recently brainwashed generation hence these style of adverts.

Is there no green cross man or code anymore? Or is it too difficult to actually aim at the potential victims rather than the drivers?
I admit I got knocked over once (or twice!) but it was entirely my own stupidity and at no point was either of the drivers doing anything wrong.

These shock style adverts certainly get a message across, but is it the right one when viewers turn away rather than watch and take notice.

there is green cross code style adverts but as with any actual "good" government advice advert it is shown at 4am to an audience that really it isnt designed for
