I'm looking at rewiring the windows in my TVR to prevent the windows squashing the seals as its annoying me for a number of reasons. Anyhoo, I'd like to have them open slightly when the doors open, then shut again when the door is shut as seen in later model TVRs, my fathers Porsche etc. I have no idea what this system is called though and if one might be available to put on my car? Has anyone heard of these being available anywhere? Or will I have to design my own?

All MINIs have them too.

They are generally a feature of pillarless doors.

IIRC the Freelander auto opening rear window is a very common failure point, I'd look for a mechanism out of a convertible.

IIRC the BMW MINI has them as well? Should be plenty of those in breakers yards...

No help to you what so ever I'm afraid smash

Eek! no not me I'm afraid, I try and keep spirited driving on the track driving That said, I was out on a mini tunnel run in Birmingham this morning making lots of noise but didn't see any Golfs!

Thanks for the input, yes I'm sure its a feature of cars without B pillars as several seem to have it. I was going to try and nick one out of a breaker Cerb/Tuscan etc but I can't find any wiring diagrams so I'm not sure how it would work. On modern cars like the Mini though, would it not be a feature of the car's central computer and therefore difficult/impossible to remove as a standalone unit?

On the MINI, grabbing the door handle actuates it, so there's a possibility it's all 'in the door'.

They've been on pretty much all of the frameless doored BMW's since the 90's.

it's part of the motor control/ memory positions system so hard to retrofit properly (the door motor knows the up and down positions, so when up, it'll drop the window a little, but if it is down an inch already, it won't bother

it was a very intresting thread that very quickly has over 30 pages of replys but the mods much have felt it needed removing instead of just locking which is a shame. was the 1st epic thread of 2009

I only managed to get top page 18 brfore i had to go to work.... got up this morning and it had vanished... did the tuscan driver make an apperance or not?

On the original question, tigra had a trick, that when the tailgate was raised the passenger window would drop an inch tilll it was shut again, then the window would close, allowed the rush of air to escape to prevent the glass from popping on closure..... not sure it could be retrofitted to a basic door window operation though.
