So my mother has just rung asking for advice..

Now I haven't insured my own car for a while now so am out of touch, the story is as follows, I would like to know other parents opinions and generally the best way to do this..

My brother (16) has got a car (N reg 1.5 D Corsa) he obviously wants to be insured to drive this car for when he passes his test, he is 17 in april.

She has her own car that he won't drive, but this obviously needs to be insured too, she isn't like me when asking for prices, I will tell her to haggle as they move so much if you ask them, but this is another story.

So where is the best place for multi car insurance, and what method is going to be legal, but the cheapest go get him cover on said car?

I tried a few of the multi policy options, which seemed quite reasonable until I added the son (17), then the premiums shot up.

Do check when getting his policy what the premium will go up to when he has a full licence, I found in most cases it tripled.

Good luck, my son's insurance was £2200.00 fully comp on a Y reg 1.2 Corsa, and that was the cheapest by far!

It was either Adrian Flux or Manning that did a multi car policy, as well as Admiral.

Waaayyyy back when I was learning, Liverpool Victoria did a multi-car policy for my dad. No idea if it was / will be good value though.

If the son is a student, try endsleigh, they are most often the cheapest for me!

admiral do a multicar which works out fairly cheap

tell her to put the young un as insured on his car and then put 2-3 experienced drivers as other vehicle users on the car as this normally drops the quote.

also try with 2 separate policies and use elephant to insure the younger driver using the method mentioned above.

anything is going to be expensive, my pal from college was insured on a 1.4 new astra for something silly like 2800 when he first passed.. but after 11 months of driving he is now insured on a vx220 for 2600 ... mmm!

Gocompare is a good site to start on.

Hello,

One thing to beware of when getting quotes on a provisional licence is that the quote will not increase when you pass your test.

There are a lot of Insurers that will offer very low quotes when on provisional licence and then increase it by a large margin when they pass their test.
Make sure when getting quote's you enquire what the price will be when he has passed and got his full UK licence

Dan.

Yes it is possible, you may have to hunt round for an insurance company that will do it. Wife had car, bought another car for her and to teach daughter to drive, had to move NCB to second car and then "mirror" it on the original car. Second car insurance came to £700 for two named full license drivers, plus provisional license driver.

As has been said, Admiral do a multicar policy and they seem to be one of the more competitive insurers for younger drivers.
