Renault 5 GT Turbo
Discussion
Recently bought r5 turbo which had been sat for a few months, was fine prior to this however now as soon as it tries to boost the car holds back farts and back fires.
Anyone no of common fault that this might be? Have checked actuator arm and feels free not stuck at all. Car runs fine if you dont use the turbo the only other thing i can think of is its either overfueling or cutting out the spark?
Boost is turned down and have played with the mixture which has made a slight difference.
Any pointers would be great thanks

Possibly dirt in the fuel lines, or crap in the tank, if it's been sitting. I have encountered misfires on seldom used cars before, and the problem can usually be traced to either the fuel supply or the ignition system. Degraded HT leads can cause problems at high revs, as can worn rotor arms and coils etc. I replaced the complete ignition system (bar distributor body) on my Ginetta, which had sat and developed a misfire and got perfect running in return for little expense and a morning's work. Otherwise investigate the fuel lines and clean the carb out. Check the fuel filter too.

I heard of some quick fixes but never realised this was one of them....how do you make sure it doesn't dribble down the paintwork
As for the car, you jammy git, always loved Renault 5's (yes even the interior
)i removed plugs and they werent too clever cleaned em up and infact made worse, so tomorrow new plugs leads dizzy cap and arm plus fuel filter and clean out the carb as i heard the needles tend to break up. After that if no fix a gallon of fuel and a lighter springs to mind lol jokes
Ignition module has vacuum retard for boosting, check all pipes, module located on bulkhead, if any dump valves / boost controllers fitted check those too and preferably bin them.
They also have a rising rate fuel pressure regulator which is somewhere near to the crank pully IIRC. Very prone to going wrong especially at age.

ok this was my thinking....since cleaning up plugs it got worse therefore must be the ignition side of things, so today replaced leads and its now sorted, runs like a dream could do with a tune up but at least its performing now.....thanks guys

Well done. This was exactly the same problem that I had. Leads are a cheap and sometimes overlooked component that make a massive difference to everything. The trouble is degraded ones look the same as a good set.ggggrrrrrrrrrWWHOOOOPPPITISHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH lol
